The company I just joined is not the right fit - what do I do?

Hey, all...

After a few weeks in my new role, I am starting to realize that the role is not a good fit.

There are a number of factors:

-Massive learning curve selling into a new persona

-Complex product that I am just not grasping (new vertical and product)

-Enterprise isn't really enterprise here.. it's glorified mid-market and the veteran reps already have the best accounts

It's a great company but I feel it in my gut that it's just not the right fit.

I do have a few options and good connections at other companies where I can get similar comp and go back to a persona/vertical I am comfortable with.

I have some offers from the previous interviews I did that are still interested and hiring.

From a hiring manager's POV: Better now than in a month or 2 more. I've just had an EA do this to me and it's easier to pull the pin right away than once you have called off the search and all the recruiters have moved on.
All the best to ya!

I felt this way when I started my new job and still low key feel that way. I get offers still, so I would say that you should do everything you can to do well in the position but start looking at offers that could give you options

Doesn’t hurt to start looking and get some concrete offers in hand. At that point your gut will tell you what feels right!

If those offers are good and feel like a better fit, I’d be honest with your current company. Share this feedback with them that this isn’t really what you thought it was going to be and that you don’t feel like it’s the right fit. The feedback could help them get better for future hires. Or maybe it won’t but at least you tried and left on a high note!

Always trust your gut - BUT the first 2 things you listed are really fixable with time and effort on your end. If you think the company has legs id put in the effort on those first two areas.

If not then go elsewhere. Your gonna be the asshole but gotta look out for #1

Don't quit unless you have another offer.  Or they just fire you.

It's still early enough to get out without it impacting you negatively. Figure out the story to tell on why you're leaving (seems like you have) and start applying.

I don't see too many alarms, to be honest with you. the first two you can control. The third one not so much.

So work on what you can control.

Go with your gut, don’t worry about how it’s perceived, people bounce so frequently these days it’s hardly looked at like a bad thing on a resume anymore. Just be careful, the market is shifting and shifting fast!

If you go make it’s a solid move because the market is about to take a big hit. Hunker down wherever you land

What attracted you to this organization in the first place?  Hard to imagine dumping the opportunity in less than a month when the organization has done nothing to warrant it: "Its a great company."

@AnchorPoint I chased the money and OTE unfortunately...The learning curve is STEAP. There is lots of product and I don't know if I want to go down that road.

The other company that wants me is a better fit, and I already have sold to the persona/industry before.

Always go with your gut, since you haven't been there very long I would look for something that's a better fit and move on before too much time passes. Best wishes
