Cold calling can be terrifying. We know. For years the anxiety of objections, hang-ups, and no answers would get to us. But eventually we, at SDRDefenders, learned that this was all about mindset. Couple that up with preparation, and you can quickly be the best cold caller on the team.
Common mistakes to avoid:
- No distractions mean no excuses. Don't convince yourself that something else is more important than calling -- an email response, a Slack message, a text from a friend. Not allowing that stuff to creep in eliminated all those excuses.
- Visualizing outcomes creates a positive headspace. Don't talk yourself into the worst possible scenario -- embarrassing yourself or embarrassing your company -- which is completely unproductive. Once you start to focus on the good things that can (and do happen) on calls, you will be much more mentally prepared to dial.
- Making yourself smile brings levity. We’re selling software, people. It’s important to take your work seriously, but you’re allowed to have fun. Once you loosen your proverbial tie, start enjoying the work much more and get way better results.
