The weather (smh)

I have to slap myself once a week minimum in closing calls mid conversation about random weather somewhere in the US with a client. I'm legitimately interested but I feel like it's a non starter,  distracting and removing any level of urgency from the prospect. does anyone else ever have this issue?

You know, I know everyone  thinks  it is corny but we all talk about the weather. I feel its a commonality between everybody so its fine to discuss. Especially if I can get someone to laugh during the call with something as simple as the weather, I feel it will be a better call.

Hurricane and tornado talk are big here. I don't see a problem with this as it establishes a common feeling with the other party. Then you move on.

Well yeah the weather is just an easy topic. Why not? As long as it’s genuine

That’s my fear. Someone assumes I’m being insincere when I really am curious. When it’s 1000 degrees outside I need the escape.

If I get any old man on the phone, I'll always bring up the weather. For any Dad/guy over 40, talking about weather is like doing a line of cocaine for them.

ANYYYY time I tell someone I'm in Minnesota, they automatically ask about the weather because it's so GD unpredictable. I know it's a conversation we're supposed to "stay away from" but it's hard when they bring it up. They aren't wrong, absolutely wild sometimes but it's equivalent to talking about the accents- over done and boring.

Accents do help with weather talk.

I don't know who you are. But if you make 6-8am meetings a widespread thing, I will hunt you down and ruin you.
