They let me go...Now what?

The previous post: https://bravado.co/war-room/posts/struggling-to-keep-it-together-need-advice

It has been a while. It was a breaking point for me.

I have completed the PIP and killed it in every way except 'Consistent Quota Achievement'.

I got let go today. Not sure where to start but I know for a fact that I DO NOT want to work for a random company. I want to work at a place where I get the coaching I need, where they provide the tool stack to set me up for success, etc.

If you were in my situation, where would you start?

What would you do?

I think I have to be an SDR but to find myself a job basically yet would love to hear your point of view or thought process because many of you are great sales people and have shit ton experience.

Also mental health wise;

I am okay. I am way better when it compared to the times I wrote the previous post. No idea why but I do not feel scared or worried. I feel calmness and something tells me that it is gonna be fine so I am super ready to focus and kill it.

Looking forward to hear from all of you

Take a breath, put yourself out there, build a list of target companies and attack it.

Don't take the first thing that comes your way.

Best of luck!!

Thank you for the update and also for the info about how you are doing.

Honestly, being let go is not the worst thing. You are now free to go pursue other opportunities.

Since you want and deserve coaching, that's something that you can interview for as you go through the process. Interviewing is mutual, so be sure you do your discovery as well. Stay away from early stage start ups for sure, though it looks like you have those crossed off your list.

You can do this.

You are always here and offering help to people. It is amazing and thank you so much. It means a lot.

I will for sure sit down and write some questions so that I can ask them during the interview process. Great idea 🙏

damn sorry to hear this. a few things.
1. continue to take care of your mental health. this is not a great situation but it does not define you, and it does not define your career.
2. go talk to the competitors. You cant totally leave out the PIP part and say you left on your own. they will most likely like you.
3. take a day or two before diving into the job hunt, and just breath

Really appreciate it, I was thinking about the PIP part but you mentioned right away. I won't mention it during interviews.

How would you handle if they ask you about past quota attainment?

Glad you mental health is doing well, as it is a stressful situation. I would start with RepVue and update your profile hear. I wouldnt say you need to be a SDR if you want to go for AE lots of places are still hiring.

Good luck with everything, give yourself a moment to relax too!

First off - that’s sucks. I’ve been there and I know how it is. I’m glad you feel calm about it.

IME a PIP means you’re out regardless of what you do.

First off, get unemployment. It’s an insurance, not welfare. Hopefully you bounce back fast enough to hardly need it. But you never know.

Next - send out a boatload of resumes and reach out to your network to let them know you’re on the hunt. Or least trusted people.

Good luck!

Thank you so much and that's something I can definitely do. I have been kind of expecting this so I got my resume redone and ready to go.

If you have the resources, then take your time. If you don't, then find something that you can use to hold you over. It is waay easier to find a job when you have a job.

Hey! Why do you think it is easier to find a job when you have one? Also what would be a great way to find 'good companies' to work at. There are trillions of companies and no idea how am I gonna make a list or judge it if it is good or not.

I do have resources for 2-3 months so I am not that stressed.

Should I get a career coach to help?

One, having a job shows you have some stability and you are "responsible" I don't like that, but it's how it is. Too easy to judge someone based on current status of employment.

As far as "good companies to work for" You need to find something that you can get behind that pays you what you need/want.

Start by make a list of what you want in a job. 1. Salary/OTE 2. Industry 3. Schedule 4. distance/remote/commute 5. culture(if you care about this) 6. ability to advance(again, if this is what you want) There are many other things you can write down and this will help you narrow your search.

Perfect! Thank you so much!

I think I am still employed so I don't have to mention that I don't work because they will pay me until the end of my contract so on legal terms, I still work there.

And I will write down all these and think about it! I really want to be good at sales and become an AE.

Really appreciate the advice!

Sorry to hear friend. The first thing I would do is reach out deeply into my network to see where is hiring and use my contacts to validate if the companies are shit or not.
From there, treat job hunting like prospecting. Be diligent and completely focused on your efforts.
Everything will work out!

Thank you so much! I already started looking and got a referral but it is in London and I was never a fan of UK so I can't really take it but I will keep going!

I am going through this now as well. I am eerily relaxed and worry-free. Financially I'm okay for the short-term but not in a good spot long-term (> 3 months). I would say go with your gut on any offers you receive. DO NOT take a position because you are desperate. That's what I did with my last position as I so wanted to leave the company I was working for at the time I didn't really ask any hard questions. Make sure that management and any potential coworkers you speak with answer your questions and set your mind at ease for working for them. You want to be paid well and treated w/respect. Anything less is just a job you want to focus on a career.

Really appreciate that you're sharing it. It is nice to know that what I think I want to do is not absurd.

Because out of desperation, whenever I do something; it is never good. It has been a week or so and still did not land an interview yet but I WILL. Maybe it is a blessing in disguise for both of us and everybody else out there.

Things happen for a reason and we will do our best and then hope for the best. I really do hope you also land a job you will enjoy.

I could tell you’re hungry and past post tells me you have a solid work ethic (though I’d encourage you to work during work hours only for the most part). The hungry get fed. All will be good. Bet your dog thinks so too

Congratulations! The worst has happened and you're still okay! Take some time to unwind from the stress of that job. Give yourself like two weeks off from searching (if you can afford it). Take a real break. Don't look at linkedin.

Once you've been able to reset, get back out there.
Find a product you get excited about and prospect the hell out of the management. :)

I've been here before OP. This is the beginning of a long hardened journey of a sales savage. I want you to understand something that took me years to realize. Your occupation is not an indicator of who you are and most importantly of who you will become. Your occupation is what you trade your time for in exchange for money. FULL STOP. Jobs are like clothes... some fit well and some don't. The great thing about sales is that all industries/verticals need it. You WILL be successful once you find your niche and commit to it. Take away the emotion and put a plan of action together to will your way to success. Remember OP in your life story... you're never the victim... you are always the hero. Good luck out there!
