Thoughts on Enterprise Associate Account Executive position at AWS?

Just spoke with one of my buddies from college who is in this role. It sounds like its an SDR role more than anything. You have to be in it for 2 years before eligible for promotion and it's a really competitive environment. The plus is that they pay very well and you get to work with the best and brightest. I don't want to be an SDR for another two years but money talks, right?

Would love to know what our community thinks about this role and AWS.

Considering you posted a week or two ago that you were on a PIP for being unable to show up to meetings on time idk if Amazon would be the best fit for you. I have friends that work there and its about as structured and cut throat as it gets so if you do want to make this move, be on your A game from the start.

If its just money you are looking for and want a closing role go to a smaller series a-b startup.

Register a deal with AWS and watch the sharks circle.  It's a blood bath.  Good luck.

This is so hyper-specific that you're best off checking compgauge and repvue not everyone wants to out where they work here.

Amazon is large blue chip if that's what you want its a good company.

The main reason I've heard to join is if you want to retrain and move into something else as amazon even if its not related to work. i.e people have literally been BDR's and then earned nursing degrees. Even if it's not radically different lot of lateral movement inside of amazon.

Can't speak with any authority as to the promotion track.

I did an outsourced contract SDR role for this organization years ago.  If you want to work very hard and be well rewarded I would go for it.  Don't think of it as a demotion if you've been in a more senior AE role before.  Remember this organization is literally asking fortune 500 companies to move the servers that run their businesses to their cloud.  Its a serious thing and they probably need you to spend some time learning.  If you don't make the grade after a few years you still have an amazing company attached to your resume and there is an army of third party integrators and developers for both AWS and Azure that need sales executives.  All very well paid.  I've watched some of the AWS people I worked with move in and out of these organizations.

If like @UrAssIsSaaS suggested you're having accountability issues, that is probably not going to fly so you're going to have to get that shit straight.

Sometimes I feel it's better to compare your role as well. Will you do exactly the same thing that you're doing now or this has +/-?

The advantage of such companies is you also get to move vertically(apart from big bucks) if you have the right skill and feel that you could do much better there.

I mean, I hear it’s a grind and then some, and people are just as expendable as the pier bastards they enslave in their warehouses. They have a line around the block of reps looking to get Amazon on their resumes
