Thoughts on leaving

hey gang!

look - I'm an SMB AE who has been promised a mid market spot come new Q.

awesome! right? no.

I've had my bonuses and commission pushed for 2 months. (usually 1 month arrear)

should I say fuck you pay me and walk out the door to move to another SMB role or sit there drowning in bills for the next 2 months?

I should say I've made pres club but I am struggling to understand how I am living pay to pay right now.

should i stay or should i go now

Your first mistake was counting on commissions to feed yourself. I financially plan as though I don't ever get paid commissions.

That being said, I'd definitely bring this up with the head shed before making any decisions. Anyone would be rightfully angry about not getting what they earned in the agreed upon time frame.

I agree with the rest, do your level best to live and budget on your base so that you're not relying on commission and bonus.

However, why is your money getting pushed?   That is not good, and I'd be concerned.

Getting your resume out there to find a position where your base covers your expenses is also a good thing to do, though I wouldn't leave the current position until you have something better locked down.

Whether you stay or go they need to fucking pay you STAT. Are they even giving you reasons for the delay?

live off your base, commission is fun/investment money.

Aside from that point, are you saying they owe you commission and are refusing to pay? or are you saying they pay it on a 1 month delay?

They pay on a one month delay, have pushed 2 months for whatever reason. No communication from commission team

if they keep not paying you without giving you a reason - my guess is they're almost out of cash and trying to stretch what they have left as far as they can

Thanks for all the input folks!

I’m not struggling to feed myself by any means but new management and no communication are really driving me away.

I think I’ll stick around for a month and see how the market feels. :)

@SaaSySalesBoy - first off congrats on president’s club. Secondly, it is sad that employers continue to do this to pclub qualified reps. If it were me, id start putting my name, resume, brag book, etc out there bc talk is cheap. The worst thing leadership can do is not follow through on their words especially as it pertains to career pathing. The writing is pretty clear on the wall. You lived up to your job description and beyond by making pclub. Therefore you should be compensated as such.

You’re not being compensated. But you’re performing.

Take the power back in your hands and dip out on your company if you get an offer from another employer.

Idk who you work for, but I definitely don’t like your employer. Nor would I ever consider working for them.

I left my employer in the middle of Q3 as the top AE in my division. Already made pclub, and was on track to make pinnacle. Why? Because of the same action (lack of action) promised to me for 4 months. If I stayed it could have been 5, 6+ months of me being played by my employer.

When the trust is gone there’s nothing left.

Nobody is going to take care of you better than you. Ultimately it’s your call. But as you said it best “fuck you pay me and walk out the door”

We all love the $, but you gotta uphold yourself to the highest level.

Thanks for the thoughtful response here. You truly understand where I’m at.

Not struggling to live by any means, but frustrated with where my performance is massively outpacing my compensation.

I think I’m going to take the promo (once I have the offer), take the pclub trip and hand my 2 weeks in.

Have to look out for myself at the end of the day. Thank you.

Yeah, Get out of there ASAP... I give one and only one chance for a company to pay me as agreed and contracted. The second time it happens or something is missing its game over.

I'll also second the advice that your budget should act as if you arent earning commissions.. but once they are earned and promised sure allocate those funds..

A good rule of thumb is your "bills" shouldnt be more than 50% of your after tax income monthly. shelter, vehicle, insurance, utilities and child care if needed are the only things that count as bills. Everything else is optional and should be budgeted separately.

I wish someone had taught the younger version of me these rules sooner.
