thoughts on unlimited PTO?

i've got unlimited PTO but a monthly quota. I never want to take vacation and and pretty much guaranteeing i wont hit if i do. Not sure how I feel about this? Do I take a weeklong vacation if i know i won't hit- or do i just say YOLO and do it?

Schedule a week off when you need it. No time away is ever a good time - you have to take care of yourself and your mental health in order to be effective at work friend.

I hate unlimited PTO. You never know how much to take. And the fear of taking more than you should is always there.

It's always counterproductive. My company started out doing that but ended up just giving us all 4 weeks of sick/PTO time (not counting paternity/maternity) in addition to the normal holidays off – people just weren't taking time off.

I´m not a fan. I´m bad at taking my PTO and always transfer it to the next year. I got it payed out a few times. That would be impossible with unlimited PTO.

To bad getting your PTO payed-out is taxed like 60% in my country.

I never would've been bothered by it when I was younger, but since having a kid the idea is more appealing, even if it's just to take the odd long weekend off to go somewhere without it affecting my summer/Xmas breaks

It sounds great but just like your problem, you never take it because you’re in a role that requires you to produce to keep your job and most importantly make money. I think companies use this as a marketing point when trying to bring on new employees but when employees get there they released unlimited isn’t really unlimited because you’re only hurting yourself if you take advantage of it. I found that when I had unlimited PTO I took less time off than when I had a PTO bank. Also, another thing you have to think of is that when you have a PTO bank it’s typically “use it or lose it” so at the end of the year you’re very likely to take the last couple weeks of the year off if you have time saved however when it’s unlimited there is no “use it or lose it”. Just my 2 pennies.

I love the unlimited PTO. Priority 1 is annual quota, then quarterly, followed by monthly. Missing a month isn’t a huge deal 

I take full advantage of the unlimited time off
