Time Management

For you AEs out there.

How do you manage your time throughout the day?

From prospecting, deal progression, proposals, internal bullshit..

One of the things I struggle with is, I'll set a to-do list/actions I want to complete that week, but have trouble managing my time across all tasks as I try to cram everything into one day.

Keen to hear how you savages manage your time!

Calendar. Calendar. Calendar.

If it’s not booked out and scheduled on my Google Calendar it isn’t going to happen.

Put everything on it. And live by it.

You should try to give yourself manageable chunks per day. You say you make a weekly list, but break it down to what you can manage to fit in one day and that way at the end of the week you used each day wisely and you'd be surprised how well that works.

As other's said, be strict about calendaring and schedule every minute of the day, even things like "go for walk" or "lunch".

Don't overload yourself with tasks, that can quickly overwhelm you.

I start with 3 categories: Create, advance, close. From there is assign specific tasks.

Create is "who am I prospecting today?" So tasks might be research, email crafting, calling.

Advance is "how can I move this forward?" So those tasks are PoC check-ins, discussions with champions about process, etc.

Close is obvious.

Spend more time crafting relevant messages on quality prospects than using a carpet bombing strategy for shitty ones.

My guess is you are either not allowing enough time for the tasks you are scheduling, or you love helping people so much you are letting it derail your day.

If it’s the second, that can be hard if you love being the “go to”. But if you schedule time for it like anything else in your day and just tell them you will help them during that time, you’ll get the work done and still get to do what you love.
