Timing your Career Development

Hello fellow Sales Savages,

I had a career opportunity recently present itself to move to apply for a BDR management position. Though it's a position I have been looking to develop into, I am about to move across the country in the next month.

My gut reaction is to wait until i'm settled into the new area to begin trying out a new role internally rather than try to relocate myself and onboard into a new role simultaneously.

What are your thoughts? Have you ever onboarded into a new role only to find it may have been the wrong time due to other life circumstances?

Let me know your thoughts.

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
So you're getting the position regardless of location? I don't see any reason to hesitate. There are always things that could make you say it's the wrong time.

Jump in, new team to start. There will be growing pains, but it's easier to start with boss authority vs a colleague who rose up in a new office.

The biggest mistakes I mad ein my career were all made by not following my gut. On the other hand. Don’t be too risk averse.

People are still drinking this? It’s probably been 10 years since I’ve had any.

As a sales professional, did you think through and design your career path, or were you thrown in and now you're just winging it?
