Tipping your SE's/ BDR's/etc. after a deal?

Obviously this is dependent on a lot of factors(like deal size and commissions), but I've always been a big advocate of tipping out my colleagues who helped me get the deal done. Just wanted to get a gauge of what others in the War Room typically do when they close a deal as a way of saying 'thanks.'

As an SDR I'd love this, but the best thing I would love the most is if the AE took the time to be there with me when they accept/decline the opportunity. Stay after the discovery call for 5 minutes debrief, say yes or no and convert it on the spot. I've got like 6 opps pending now and it's super frustrating!

I used to be a sales translator and had a month where I didn’t close one outbound deal but smashed my quota so I took the inbound team out for dinner.

It varies.. but I do like to spoil the supporting folks who stepped up in a needy deal ie, our legal team is a bunch of boozers so I will always go and get them a few nice bottles of something fancy. It truely helps when you need it, end of quarter someone jumping on a call off business hours to help you out- I've gotton my moneys worth several times over.

On the BDR front, if someones grinding for I'll def toss them a nice gift cifty their way. If they're on their own and choosing which rep out of the 4+ they're going to do extra outbound for, I want it to be me.

Buttering up legal, I like that idea! I think I'll need to toss RevOps and Legal a little something cause its always great to have them on your side.

I've taken the BRD I worked with out for drinks before and have been taken out for lunch when I was an SDR so I think gestures like that are always nice and go a long way

We don’t have assigned SDRs so at Christmas I reward the one that brought me the most dollars I closed as well as someone in support staff like SMEs, sales ops

After I had a great first year with my present company, I sent my SDR a nice bottle of bourbon via drizzly.com

I’ve also done the same for particular people in legal or ops that proved especially helpful throughout a quarter or FY.

Gratitude and generosity go a long way...and many times come back around.

Tip is a weird way of saying it. This isn't the end of the night bar biz. But an SDR shout out in the closed won announcement as part of the closing team goes a hell of a long way.

Your company doesn't pay SE or BDRs commission?

I don't think I was ever tipped out as a BDR. I got a shout out during SKO when the AE referred to me as "that one BDR" but that's it.

YES, 1 MILLION PERCENT!!!!!!!!!!!

Being an SDR is a total shit show and is probably one of the hardest jobs out there. You have to show them love when and where you can. They will appreciate the support and acknowledgment cause they usually get none.

Also having positive relationships with BDR/SDR's is always a good thing. This will often lead to them bending but not breaking rules to get you more leads.

Preach! I definitely funneled good opps to the people who were the nicest to me.

I’ve been doing this for qualified opps. Anything where there is a real project, I’ll get a gift card like Amazon or a local restaurant. If what I would make in commission is directly from a BDR, i have no issue dropping $50-$100 to help them. If anything, they will want to get me more qualified leads after!

(the only reason i do this is because it’s rare lol)

We have implemented a new methodology for our BDR.s. Instead of being measured on activity, booked meetings, etc - they are measured on created revenue. Creates more ownership and makes sure you always hunt for the right accounts and also they feel more valuable to the company.

How do you measure created revenue?

They have a target of created revenue for cases they have booked and are involved in during the whole sales process, that in the end will be closed.

Build the relationship more than a gift. I've found a simple phone call thanking them for being na instrumental part in the sale and the continuing to work and ask for them goes a long way

Depends on the deal size. Large deals are either steak dinner or a bottle of alcohol on me for the team that helped me close it. For small deals, I'll set a meeting for myself and pass the lead to the SDR as theirs (so they get paid comish) and for SE's a $$ for a Food Delivery service.

Oh hell yeah, I was at a company for a while that took an interesting approach to the AE/SDR relationship. Essentially we were really SDR heavy so each AE had a team of 2 to 3 SDRs that prospected for them and also acted as their manager. I would consistently tip my SDRs and even gave a percentage of my commission as a bonus to the top performer at the end of the month.

Back in the day my AE's would maybe pay for lunch, or every now and them take me to a live event or conference. I loved that, but what made the most sense, what really got me going was when they would actually sit down with me and walk me through stuff I was so new to, I had no idea what it was.
