Tips on creating a high performing team culture in a remote environment?

Hey Fellow Sales Savages,

I've been away from the War Room for some time now as I get acquainted to my new role in BDR management and would appreciate advice and or input from you all as I begin to manage an ever growing team.

I will soon be managing 6 BDR's from all across the US, many of whom are new to the org. What tips do you have for creating an environment where my BDR's actually enjoy working with one another, pro-actively support their team mates, and absolutely crush their quotas together?

Appreciate any advice you Sales Savages can send my way.

Regards,

Force them to do as many unnecessary “fun virtual happy hours” as you can fit in a calendar month. People love those.

Have excruciatingly long team meetings weekly where you only review KPIs, really bonds the team

1. Consistency. Meet every week 1-1 and also as a team
2. have them share wins/challenges
3. find out what drives them. Can you toss individualized spiffs to keep them excited
4. go visit them?
5. team meeting?

I love your list. Consistency is very important. Daily video calls do get stale and redundant so you have to find small ways to appreciate your people. I've sent my team coffee gift cards to have a cup of coffee together on a certain day/time.

Recognition, no matter how small, matters.

I agree, these are great pointer. We also run some weekly stuff with small reward, makes all to join and focus on what shit is going on.

Set consistent standards. Let them know exactly what you need/want from them in their updates and weekly reports if you do that. Also, standardize how they enter notes into SF or your CRM. If they follow your format and do it exactly how you want you don’t have to chase.

Keep meetings short.

Micromanage the hell out of them, anyone new to an org that on an island learning things love to be micromanaged.

Creating some type of a scoreboard that is easy for them to understand and can see if they are winning or losing to their quota/KPIs. Then holding them accountable to their results, if a higher performing rep is seeing that the low performers are getting slack for not hitting their numbers it could result in the high performer possibly taking their foot off the gas.

Gamify everything or do quarterly team offsites in random cities.

Create a virtual pod by making everyone get on and stay on their cams all day. And for godsakes, make them dress nicely.

Don't coddle the BDR's. The biggest mistake BDR managers have is tolerating low performance. Hire fast fire fast and make sure you create a competitive environment.

A team goal with substantial payoff will keep them engaged with each other as well as actively seeking to help each other as needed.

I chose PPO. HSA has much higher fees. However it's the better choice for tax reasons and the only one that works with a Flex I believe? I just know what works for me.
