I love it when someone includes one when they send me an invite. It allows me to know if they're just going to try to sell me (decline) or how I know them so I can reference that later.

I always send a note, it's the first chance I get to differentiate myself when I am trying to connect with a prospect.

I would say don't, it's bait for accept and I'll pitch you. If you do send a note/message and they accept, DO NOT PITCH THEM.

I generally only include a message when I literally just spoke with them on the phone/via email and say something like "thanks for taking my call, looking forward to speaking with you again soon about XYZ"

ALWAYS send, especially if you're truly trying to connect. Nothing is worse to me than seeing a connection request with zero context or reason why we should connect. Most leaders resonate with this as well

I was asking juan in a slack discussion in the company we work at of how to do outreach in LI bc nothing was working. At the end of the day it comes down to the situation but more often than not, we ourselves don´t open these linkedin request that have a message, so why bother? the less salesy the better

That's fair if that's your user behavior. I'm just going off of LI engagement data!

I don't see why you would not send one to be honest as this is just another step in your cadence that can broaden your touchpoint and get the prospects attention.

If your email gets filtered into your prospects spam or they simply do not pick up their phone, LI is a great way to get in front of them if they accept your invite.

I personally only message them if they accept my invite as I find in-mails ineffective off SalesNav as they look too salesy.

Wouldn't sending a connect msg kind of give off your agenda? Would we not relate this to regular human behaviour when it comes to any other social media platform?

No, because you wouldn't meet a friend of a friend at a bar and then connect with them on Facebook with a message that says, "Bro the bar was such a good time"...

They're useless for high value targets.

If you need to info gather first it's not a bad way to get a warm intro to lower tier folks.
