Top Performer on My Team is Cut Throat - Stolen Closes and Deal Owner Changes.

My start-up keeps getting worst. The top performer who everyone loves is literally so cutthroat. He deleted a deal off my demo-booked excel after it had closed, and put it on his. He also occasionally changes deal owners on HubSpot from our inbound leads which have a higher chance of closing.

No clue what to do about this, but I definitely do not want to work here after my 4 months are up.

If I were you, I'd go to his Manager and make an extremely ridiculous demand.ย

Like this one:ย  "๐‘ฏ๐’†๐’š ๐‘ฉ๐’๐’›๐’.

They'd most likely say: "๐™’๐™๐™–๐™ฉ?

And you can be like: "๐‘พ๐’†๐’๐’.

Absolutely bring it up to their manager and the last part is important, maintain the poker face you don't want to look like a snitch.ย

Not worth stirring up the pot if you'll be gone soon. But in the future just grab a screenshot (there's always a paper trail) and let your manager know. It's their job to fight for you and people who cheat don't last long.

You guys have a shared Excel? And that's how you're tracking things instead of HubSpot.

That's confusing to me, but if it's shared does it have revision history? Documenting is key

I have someone who does the exact same. But the only difference is - The manager knows of this, and supports too. Because apparently high potential deals are better with the top performer, than us. We donโ€™t, apparently, handle the leads well.

Itโ€™s not worth confronting. But you can do what @AgastyaAdams suggested. Subtly let them know that this is happening.

Assuming the manager doesnโ€™t know, this should set the record straight.

Assuming the manager knows, you better start packing to go to another startup because things might get muckier.

This is interesting. Its fucked from an AEs perspective but does that AE close at a higher rate than everyone else? Is there a business case for it?ย

Removing the horrendous morale it creates of course.ย

Yes, the AE always closes 2x as opposed to others. I do agree that the AE in question is pretty #lethal when it comes to closing. No mercy, kinda. We tend to go soft on accounts that need nurturing, that AE wouldnโ€™t.

But itโ€™s also true on the other hand that they are preferred more for any handover deals. So itโ€™s a mix of both.

i would imagine heโ€™s breaking some type of policies, no? thereโ€™s always evidence, consider calling him out. but also if you know youโ€™re leaving really soon, might not be worth the effort

How is this even a problem. Just move it back to your sheet and tell him to fuck off. And do it publicly. If your sales manager condones this crap, I would absolutely go above them. Can't run a team with one queen bee.
