Transition from MarTech to DevOps

Holla gang,

I'm currently interviewing for a hot company in the open source space selling to CTOs and DevOps but my career has only been in MarTech. One of the areas I'm sure they're going to bring up is my lack of experience selling to this department and I want to be prepared.

Aside from the usual assurances I can provide the hiring manager about my willingness to learn etc. I'm curious what other peoples experiences have been around making a move into a new space, particularly open source. How have you turned that lack of experience into a positive?

Context - it's a role in the commercial team <250 employees, I've got roughly 3 years closing experience and haven't sold to a technical audience before.

Churs!

Expand on open source. Are you selling commercialized version of open source software?

Gitlab rep here, devops is our thing. Our ae's have support from solutions architects for their technical demonstrations, usually don't come in until 3rd meeting or so .

Demonstrating the business value of devops isn't that technical and it's more just understanding vendors digital transformation journeys. If you're very process driven and follow enablement snd training you should be fine.

I went from selling bpm tools to operations department to selling it  , it's definitely more complex but possible.
