Transitioning into a VP role - any advice?

I recently accepted a VP of Sales position w/ a relatively young startup in the tech industry. I will be reporting directly to the CEO and will still be selling. However, I'll also be tackling hiring, strategy, and commission structure, etc.

Any advice for preparing for this role? I have a strong network of Sales Leaders and always go to them with questions but I was wondering if anybody has gone through this transition themselves and things they did that helped them achieve success and growth.

P.S. My background is in SaaS sales and I've worked for several startups. I have about 5+ years in sales (I'm 27 years old). The position is remote

First off, congrats on the role!ย

Second, what comes to mind is really setting expectations with the CEO regarding the split between selling and the rest of your role. It's better to know know how they expect your time to be divided, and gives you a chance to either adjust to that or push back if you feel it isn't congruent with the company's goals.ย

Agreed- you're only human its already tough to hit a quota quarter after quarter, add in hiring, structuring of the Sales org, and all the other small fires you will need to put out it can be too much.ย
