Trash Recruiters - How did I get ghosted?

I'm sure many of you get linkedIn messages trying to persuade you to take the next opportunity, or see what else is out there. Personally I am laughing this morning as someone reached out last Thursday with said opportunity. I am not completely looking for a new job, but the details of this one sounded enticing so I wrote back saying I would be open to hear more. The recruiter asked for my number and said he would give me a call the next day. I did not receive a call and when I messaged him back asking if I had missed it he did not respond.

So my question is this. Should I or should I not go off on this guy. Mostly annoyed because who reaches out to someone and then ghosts them lol. If you already found the candidates you want to pursue then just say so. But don't waste my time and then not give an explanation.

To go off or not to go off?

There are a lot of shit recruiters out there but I still have a little bit of a heart and like to give people the benefit of the doubt at least once. Maybe he got sick or someone died.ย

I would just message him and say "Unfortunately I haven't heard back from you, hope all is well. Should I assume you're no longer interested in chatting?"ย

If he continues to ghost just move on. If he does say something came up treat it as a yellow flag but still proceed. If he ghosts again or does some other unprofessional shit, bounce.ย

I always give the benefit of the doubt unless someone has been an outright dick. Life happens, and things rarely move as fast you might like anyways.ย

100% agree with this response and Iโ€™m sorry youโ€™re in that position! Youโ€™re rightโ€ฆthere are a lot of shit recruiters out there and itโ€™s embarrassing to even consider myself level peers with people like that. Never ever burn a bridge no matter what and give the benefit of a doubt.

Blow it up
Happened to me a while ago, a recruiter for a big company here said I was a perfect fit and that they were the exclusive headhunter for the company. He said they put the last 3 people in the same role over the last 2 years.

When I asked him why the last 3 left he didn't have an answer. Then he ghosted me when the company went with another firm and another hire for obvious reasons. I don't even think they looked at me since the last 3 guys he sent didn't work out.

He was a typical douche-bro "Chad" type that peaked in high school, so I don't know why I expected anything different.

To me, there's no real point in giving this recruiter a "piece of your mind". Sales - regardless of industry - is way too small of a world. There's no reason to potentially put yourself at risk of ruining future relationships for the sake of getting ghosted on an initial screening.

Just send a message like @funcouponsย suggested and move on.

That happened to me last week, and I swear I wanted to give him shit, but I didn't because I thought he was not worth my attention, so I moved on.

Why burn a bridge you aren't sure you may need to use?ย  Guessing that there was not actually a position - they were searching for a top performer to represent and then market you to companies.ย  It is a high level game and this player overstepped.ย  It does not mean something might not come along in the future.ย  Understand their role and use it to your advantage when you can.

One thing I've learned while in sales is that there are a lot of shit people in their jobs in all departments and levels. Unfortunately, this is just one of them. I'd move on. It's their loss but honestly what will going off on them do? When people freak out on me when I cold call them it leaves a very sour taste in my mouth, be the bigger person :)ย
