Travel Cost

Happy Sunday Bravado Fam! I just accepted a job offer in my home state of Texas. Company wants me to travel to Arizona for a week to train/meet the rest of sales team. They've stated they will cover Hotel/Plane/Food. Is it typical for companies not to cover a rental car for a one week trip? Should I ask them if they can pick up the bill or let me expense it?

If the hotel you are staying at is near enough to the venue/office for you to Uber (which they would cover), probably not. Doesn’t hurt to ask though

Thank you, I'll wait until they send me the hotel information to ask. I just don't want to sound too needy right off the bat.

I’m assuming they don’t think you need a rental. Clarify though.

Do you need a rental car in a city when there is Uber, public transport and your legs?

True. At this point I just wear the rug burns, handprint bruises, and cattle branding as a badge of sexy honour and just make his pockets hurt next time we’re in the Chanel store.

Are they sending you to the Phoenix area? That’s actually a huge metro. I’d find out what they’re planning and then you can ask about transportation and how to manage it when you’re there. Thinking of the times I’ve had to fly to company training events, it’s a mixed bag of rental car or no. None when in Boston, yes to a car in the SLC area, none in Vegas. It will depend on the company’s plans. You’ll have to ask.

I’ve gone to many different company training events and it varies, depending on the city. Boston and Vegas, no car. Uber/Lyft/Shuttle or Taxi. SLC area, car. I’d just ask them how ground transportation is best handled. It may be that they have plans, as well.

edit:  sorry, I didn't realize my earlier post had posted, and added an edited version.   My bad.

Probably best to Uber and expense those. Honestly it would probably be a lot cheaper to Uber back and forth vs getting a rental vehicle right now.
Ask where they expect you to be on-site vs where your hotel is?

Whether you use an Uber, rent a car, whatever it is, get them to pick up the bill, it's all part of the travel expenses, so my move would be to ask them to pick up the tab for that
