Trent Dressel got fired from Qualtrics

He could sometimes be a bit over the top, but

really liked the guy.

It really goes to show no one's safe even if you gave 100% of your life for 5 years to one company.

my first thought for sure after seeing his last LI post that was posted here!

its so true that everything you do builds your brand, idk if this dudes brand is the best any more.

Even THIS post is super cringey.

@TennisandSalesYeah I bet that post had something to do with it. You'd have to be bringing in obscene amounts of ARR to outweigh the potential legal and brand damages of publicly admitting that you ignore do not call and unsubscribe lists....Especially when you're looking to sell your company

Maybe he survived it ... but wasn't forgotten. Saw somewhere else (unverified) that he hadn't hit quota since Q4 2021 (boom market turned to bust). But who really knows.

I don't know the reason for him being let go, but SAP is supposedly in the process of selling off Qualtrics. I imagine there are probably a lot of folks who were let go in preparation for the sale.

That has nothing to do with it. There have been no layoffs associated with that.

Ok. I'm not super familiar with Qualtrics other than knowing that SAP owns them, and that SAP did announce layoffs (not necessarily at Qualtrics though). If he got fired for performance, so be it.

I used to listen to his pod a decent bit. He hit quarts a bunch consistently and they kept raising it on him. He didn’t hit quota in Q4 but somehow got a promotion?

Not sure if it’s cause of his post last week but I can’t imagine selling to HR. Seems like the worst customer profile to talk to.

It's never too good of an idea to explain how you use a bit of light harassment to get reengagement to a wide audience or that you take something as basic as an unsubscribe as a personal affront.
Not saying it's enough to lose a job but sometimes it's ok to type it up, look at what your about to post, and then DELETE that shit b/c it's not worth the headaches, both the foreseeable and unforeseeable.

As an employee, you represent the company.

If you're openly admitting to what he posted...I think most CEO's wouldn't want that type of culture.

Consequence culture is the way I think of it.
But companies have a brand as well. The marketplace speaks. If someone or something is a liability and negatively affects that brand and therefore their ability to make $$, they will take action.

I like Consequence culture as a term, especially compared to cancel culture. But it's crazy to me though b/c it implies there are people that believe that in same ways you can live or act without consequences...and that shit is crazy.

I am curious how good he is at the various steps of the sales cycle that aren't 100% effort based though.

To empathize a bit here, it does seem like it’s getting harder to set yourself apart and craft the right professional image in some cases… A lot of companies have a cringey culture. Can’t speak for Qualtrics specifically but I’ve definitely seen it where if you want to play the game, you have to be an insufferable enthusiastic wannabe influencer.

Obviously not exactly the case here because he’s no longer with the company and it’s not a game I’m going to play but I can understand how someone can fall into playing the persona.

There was a post about this on the sales subredddit where some qualtrics peoples chimed in that he sorta rose through the ranks on a COVID wave selling a product government agencies pretty much had to buy. That said, they also said the guy works hard and logged 1200 calls in a month (I forget if it was just a month or month to date...) - that said, didn't seem to be much of a closer and I think that post he made definitely rubbed people the wrong way.

1. Just b/c he makes cool posts online doesnt mean he can sell
2. Qualitrics has lots of great sellers who dont blast everything online..too much risk for a public company.

There are lots of boom market reps that sold well during the covid boom and now realize they can't sell shit

Dude don’t respect this dude. Working hard is table stakes. The dude is a pathological douche who uses his podcast channel to humblebrag about his paychecks, and he gives fucking terrible advice through and through.

He is in elementary sales - I told him on his YouTube channel he wouldn’t make it as a real AE; glad I was proved right.

Trent is a young idiot that thinks he is the first person to stumble into a sales job in tech.

All his advice is generic as shit, and the only people who listen to him are people with less experience then him who are drawn in by his paycheck brags.

Also anyone who cites Grant Cardon as an idol can get fucked.

I don’t know his whole work story, but from what I read on LinkedIn (aka the cringy aggressive sales tactics that he uses) he likely saw a decline in his numbers. No one likes to be harassed. It’s okay to be persistent within reason. Hopefully he learned a little something with his first sales gig. Sales isn’t easy.

I have a buddy who works over there and asked him about it. He said Trent is so full of shit it isn't funny. He's become this online persona he created and everyone there was rooting for him to fail cause he's a douche.

Not sure if all his performance stuff is bullshit but the vast majority is according to someone who was on Trent's team as of January this year and watched the end fairly closely.
