Truth time: do you have those days where a legit prospect picks up a call and you hang up when they answer ?

I consider myself a decent salesman…but have those days where I still hang up and freeze when good prospects answer my call. Anyone else? Or should I jump.

I don't think I've ever actually done this but I've definitely felt like doing this. It's usually when I'm tired/having a rough day/need a day off.

Absolutely, it's okay to slump too.

The key is to breaking out of that mindset when you notice it, take a break, walk, do something physical or self-satisfactory (like a mini clean-up of the kitchen, workspace etc).

Once you've accomplished something small you're ready to hit the horn again.

Good call. I’ll try stepping away from it for a while next time

I wouldn't recommend sleeping. Pulls you off momentum.
I agree with Beans, do something physical to blow off steam and clear your mind.

We've all done it once. I did when I first started my sales career. Now I fucking beg for people to pick up.

True pros know that in those situations the correct thing to do is ask the prospect if their refrigerator is running. And if yes, that they ought to go catch it.

I have those days and I'm pretty sure I get those calls too where I will say Hi like three times and hear nothing and then they'll hang up

Never done that as an SDR but thank god for anonymity because I’ve definitely re-scheduled an intro call that a SDR set up for me because i wasn’t prepared, woke up late,,etc.

I can feel this post.  It’s never happened to me but, man, this one connects.

Remember…You’re NOT selling when you cold call. You’re asking if it’s okay to send them more information. Don’t pitch them. Selling is done later.

Think like a prospect would. Get the small win, and work your magic later.

Thoughts?

I’d agree..sometime people get pissed of at the hi!

You’re not saying “Hi”. You’re providing value. Every touch you’re either gaining credibility or losing it. Introduce yourself, explain what you do, and ask if it would be okay if you send over an email that they can review at their leisure. If they say no, move on.

I had a prospect say on Friday (5/28), “I really appreciate your approach. Most guys ask for a demo/meeting right away.”

Commitment is overwhelming, especially if it’s with a guy they don’t know. Build that relationship!! So important

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
I can't say I've done this before I've definitely just not picked up the phone in the past.

Yes. I never enjoyed cold calling. I forced myself to do it and I wasn't horrible at it, but I never liked it. I don't think it's helpful like many say to try and force yourself to like it or the "you only dislike it because you aren't good at it".

I have many old commission checks that would dispell of that notion.

Some people just don't like cold calling. I have clinical anxiety which makes it worse for me.

Most of the time, good salespeople will force themselves to do things they don't enjoy. On certain days you have less willpower.

Those days I have hung up.

Eventually I started selling myself for myself and now I get to sell however I'd like. Do I still cold calling is effective? Yes. Do I need to do it? No.

Do I? No.

Yeah have it all the time. I break it up when that happens my making some existing customer calls to up-sell. That tends to improve the mental health!

For me, I'll call someone and leave a million voicemails and casually assume that's going to be the case. And then BAM...they answer..and I'm caught so off guard I forget who I am or wtf I'm supposed to be talking about. Stumble so hard I may as well have just hung up in fear hahaha

I've done it on accident before. I've reached so many voicemails that day I hear a voice and just assume its another mailbox so hang up, only to realize a few seconds later it was a person who said hello

When a lead answers the phone for the first time in history only to scream at me to stop calling my first reaction is to laugh really loud. I don't even think about it.
