typical % of Outbound for a startup

Hi guys,

For SaaS (startup if that matters), what's the typical % of revenue coming from outbound? asking because our rev op team is expecting the sales team to bring 1/3 of revenue for 2023 from cold outbound (and 2/3 inbound based on marketing efforts)

2/3 being from marketing?! For a startup? There's no brand awareness, little traction.

It'll be almost ALL outbound.

Maybe I should clarify - Our finance team came with a revenue amount they expect the sales team to bring from outbound. That number is a third of the total revenue projected for next year. My argument is that this is way too much of an expectation. Am I wrong?

The vast majority of revenue expected for a startup should come from outbound. 1/3 is shockingly low. More like 7/8 or 9/10

I would say the majority would be outbound unless you are well known.

Reading what you stated, the amount seems low - but how does that affect your comp/OTE and plans?

If I was you, I'd be gearing up to bring in more than 30% but be pleasantly surprised if marketing actually hits that target.

there will be more than 33% of your rev coming from outbound. You have to get the company name out there. For the first year it will be more than 60% imo outbound and inbound will trickle in, depending on your "great marketing team"

Probably closer to 85%

i would be really surprised if the majority of rev would come from inbound at a startup.

Completely depends on industry and how saturated the market is with your solution and competitors. Are you seeing a high volume of inbound leads come in from brand recognition and/or customer referrals? Without seeing that, I would be more apt to think like 80% will be outbound.

Are you a high transaction business that gets a lot of inbound. If yes, your number might be correct. Or else most of the companies are outbound driven where majority comes from outbound outreach

Brand awareness will mean very little as a startup. Almost non existent unless you are selling the good good. Outbound will likely be where most of your revenue comes from. Marketing will do nothing for you. Sorry to break it to you. Lastly, depending on what your quota is they should be realistic with sales timelines based upon the heavy outbound needed.

We've been around for almost 2 years, and we're 90+% outbound.

Not sure how early stage your org is but to expect 2/3 to come inbound is a lot...

Currently an outbound SDR, making the switch to inbound SDR for a SF startup. Any tips?
