typos in email blasts

So my team & I have been brainstorming new email templates to engage with prospects. We all came up with our own & decided we would send them out & track the open rates.

In my email I wanted to offer clients a live demo but instead offered them all a live DEMON๐Ÿ‘น (spooky season amirite?). Yes I know it's not the worst typo but enough to make me question my proof reading skills

So now what?

How to handle this typo in my email blast

I miss clicked. This is the best way to make a follow up with a joke! At the very least it will stand out!ย

I'm intrigued by the live demon.ย  How do you go about procuring one to send to a customer?ย  ย I have enough issues just sending the regular mugs and ballcaps.

I'm pretty sure they sell them on Amazon, just look up live demons

Yeah, I did look.ย  Lots of "out of stock" and then the really expensive ones from sketch sellers, like "darkedgelord69" on eBay.ย  ย ย

You're right, it's most likely a timing issue.ย  I just may have to wait until next month.

I feel like a correction of the typo would do 2 things.

1) Humanize you and maybe provide a laugh for those that opened.

2) Offer another opportunity for people to view the original message that didn't open it.

Honestly it's october and I feel like any EDGY tech startup's marketing department would purposely send emails to ask prospects about "Get a Live DEMON *insert devil emoji*ย

Best chance is to make yourself human to the prospect. I'd call it out and make a joke or something. Make it seem like they arent just part of a templated sequence.

Leave it, but they will notice, the 5 - 20% that open it that is.ย

Leave it, and anybody that responds pointing it out just make a joke out of it then as long as itโ€™s not a negative response

What we did once was we owned the msitake and mentioned that our emails are send by humans and mistakes might happen.

However, next time try to send test emails to a few internal guys and always use minimum 2 different emails as an A/B tests if you sending bulk.

I missed that as well, and I've been told I'm a member of the Grammar Police (it's a curse).

Well the funny thing is we all shared our templates beforehand & no one noticed it then either. But I think we were just all so focused on getting them out that we were skimming over them. Lesson learned lolย

That's incredible. I'd respond to that email. Some of the best art in the world comes out of mistakes ;)

No joke, I sometimes put intentional typos in my emails so prospects can tell I'm a real person.

If it were me I would almost certainly respond saying "Correction...I actually don't sell demons, but if you really want one I can probably find one this month" or something similar.

An old colleague of mine did the same thing! She has a small typo in pretty much all of her email templates, something you would only notice if you're looking for it.ย

Love the follow up though, I might use that hahaย

I know an absolute sales killer who barely ever cold calls. He does almost everything with custom email, and they're extremely long and rambling and full of typos.

At first I thought it would hurt him, but it works great! People respond because they can tell it's actually him and he thought about their situation deeply!

There is literally no better time of year for this particular typo, haha. I would respond with a joke. Great opportunity for another touch point!

Apologize and tell them you aren't trying to demonize the idea of a demo, but apparently you have. Then send them an order form and hope they sign...

Depending on what email provider you use you can actually retract emails you sent if the person you emailed hasnt opened it yet. I know outlook has this feature.ย
