Understanding your customers/prospects vs outbound

We have been doing outbound for a while - like hundreds of emails per day sent. We know that the effectiveness of this would be low - and it was - even with AI personalisation.

The only deals we got so far are where we dived deep into information about a prospect, wrote an email upfront or offered some value upfront (duh, right?).

I am curious if this is true for most of us or is there some tactic that I am missing out in doing scaled outbound (through Clay or smt)

I see this getting more common day by day. The deliverability has taken a toll. It's true. What I've realised is that sending a super personalized mail, has increased the open rates, click rates, and other metrics as you mentioned. Scaling has become a challenge.

What we do is that we're changing the top part and the bottom part of the email frequently. We're using multiple variations of the same email. We're also AB testing a lot of subject lines.

Do you do any of these actively?

How do you do change them?
I did try changing only the top part through google sheets simply - however results did not really change.
It did not really solve the problem I mention above because the actual content of the top part has to be really knowledable about the customer pain point. Collecting that info and compiling that into a couple sentences is the tough part IMO

Scaling has become quite difficult and will continue to be more and more difficult. @Gasty hits the nail on the head with the above.

I’d say try to set up your sequences to give reps and yourself a framework of an email to add customization to. This will help with the scalability but not pigeon hole yourself into an extremely manual process.

Also note this is not a full proof solution. GTM leads grapple with this problem everyday.

What you are missing is that it is cheaper to get a bunch of unskilled and untrained SDR's hammering away on the phone and email to capture less than 1% of their prospects than it is to hire actual skill and take time "knowing" your potential clients.

Volume has increased exponentially and personalization naturally has decreased and while many sales managers with slacks 3 sizes too big that havent closed a deal since 2000 will tell you to personalize at scale that just isnt realisitc.

You have 2 levers you can pull and it seems for whatever reason most people opt for more volume you can easily stand out going the other way

There is no silver bullet - deliverability and engagement from cold outreach is increasingly challenging…it’s a necessary evil but should only be 1 tool in your chest (as conversions will be low). No idea what product / service is being offered but sending out 100s per day (assuming same messaging)……does suggest pretty broad targeting / diminishing returns, so would start there first……reduce volumes / better segment recipients to allow for more targeted messaging, perform lots of A/B, mix in multi-channel efforts and try to identify any helpful metrics (optimum time / day for outreach, common attributes of recipients who do engage etc…also saw some uptick in activity when adding a powerful CTA as a PS.)….and then deal with the inevitable flak from those above who simply look at increasing outbound volumes as the only indicator of effort.
