There are countless studies on this. When given "unlimited PTO", individuals actually take less PTO overall. Companies do it because they do not have to pay out unused PTO.ย

Don't feel guilty, as long as it is not negatively impacting your performance, take as much time off as you want.ย

I have unlimited PTO and take off collectively about 6 weeks a year, if my attainment drops below 100% I dial it back but otherwise...send it.

Unlimited PTO is a financial loophole that smart companies exploit and disguise as a perk. It keeps money off of the book and frees it up for expenditures.

As a manager, I do encourage my team to take time off if they are hitting their numbers and can show me the proof that they will continue to if they take extended time off (more than a week). I personally have taken 2-week vacations on an "unlimited" plan and was pinged nearly every day of that 2-week vacation because my old CEO was incompetent. I guess it depends on where you work and if you are at or near your number on a consistent basis.

I worked in a company that had โ€œunlimited PTOโ€ the psychology of people feeling like that can take as much as they want makes them want to work more. What it really is โ€œas much as you want with in reasonโ€ donโ€™t take them during peak seasons.ย

i took 2 weeks In September, the whole month of December and a week in April. However my performance spoke for it self

If you hit your number I wouldn't worry about it. Just make sure you keep it up

Yeah I'm not sure I see anything within your control that you would "change". If you're at your number just keep doing it and take time when you want without being blatant about it (last week of Q, etc...)

Pre-WFH times it was a scam in that it was well-known employees would take less time off.

During WFH times it's a scam in that you don't get the unused PTO payout when you leave.
