USA vs. Canadian territory

If you ever had USA and Canadian territory, did you notice it’s much easier to sell to US companies?

At first, I thought it could be due to the population difference, but there is also something about Americans being more bold, innovative and open to technology, whereas Canadians are a bit more risk averse and slow to adopt tech. This is true for mid market mostly.

Just as the USA is one homogenous culture, neither is Canada. Ontario is v. different than British Columbia. Gotta start by understanding the culture and the norm. And it takes time to build trust first. I learned the hard way that Canadians don't much care for Americas and our 'can do, do it now' attitude. So throttle that back and focus on building the relationship by delivering value and finding people where you share common connections - cuz they will back channel you. Once you're in - you're in.

Canadians are much more difficult to sell to. They’re also immensely proud of their country so I just talk about Canada for a bit and hockey.

It really depends on the location but I can say that in general USA companies are more open to at least hearing a sales pitch. As for meeting converted to sales they are about 60:40

I'm from Canada and I find it harder to sell to USA companies. We both think eachother sound funny Y'all, EH?

So interesting. But it does largely depend on the product as well as the province. I’d say Eastern Canada is a bit easier to sell to than Western. Again, depending on the product, if we’re talking oil/gas/mining then Western Canada is easier
