Vacation. Can you do it?

Interested to know others thought on this one. I’ve always loved to travel but since getting into sales it’s almost impossible for me to completely check out unless I leave the country. Anyone else have this problem or have any tips on how to unplug without killing your production for the month?

Do you actually stop working?

Remove your email from your phone and ask someone you trust at work to text if there are issues. Chances are they won't feel the need to text, but you won't feel worried about being completely in the dark in case of emergency.

In past roles i've had either my manager or one of my team members watch my desk for me. If it's a dire emergency, I'll typically answer to those calls/emails, but if it isn't, it can wait. Heaven knows that your deals ain't going anywhere if the DM is out of office and can't sign the DocuSign, so if they can have some R&R we can too.

Depends on if I have a deal worth working and when that deal will close. Who knows, might pay for my next vacation

I am purely reactive to big issues via email when i am on vacation. It is not a priority for me. I am not glued to my phone. If an opp sends me a question, I will get to it when I get to it. But I will get to it while I am on vacay

At times when it’s difficult to disconnect and unplug I’ve actually removed my work apps from my phone. I know it sounds extreme but it’s a must!

Def stop working if you take your P.T.O. Leave the cell if you can't disconnect otherwise

Leaving the country still doesn't help me--I either log out of or remove my slack app so I cannot get pinged and put that vacation responder on with no glimmer of hope that I will respond.

Planning in advance works for me. Aligning with clients to let them know I’ll be out so if we need signature everyone knows I’ll be gone. Having a strong backup from a close coworker who I can trust in sales and having my pre sales up to date on EVERYTHING with auto forwarding to them. Makes signing off easier.

Nope. Out of office goes on, email/team chat is deleted off phone, and I won't be taking any internal or external calls while I'm on vacation. I'm not a brain surgeon or fighting on the front lines - nobody dies and the world will not end if I take a break from selling for a week or two. I work to live, not the other way around.
