Verbal offer...no written yet after 1 month.

Hello fellow War Room members,

I received a call from the hiring manager offering me the job...to which I accepted giving the terms were the ones we previously discussed. However it's been a month and no written offer has been received. HR mentioned said hiring manager was on PTO, to which he also mentioned when he responded to my inquiries. They didn't respond to my last communications last week. I specifically asked a timeline, if the offer has been rescinded or if the job was no longer available -to me. Hiring manager said that No, don't worry about that.

I continue to search and apply for other jobs, not holding my breath here. However I'm disappointed because this company is a leader in the Biotechnology world. The role is my dream job, and salary, benefits, etc. were exactly was I was looking for.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Best,

ER

If it's your dream job then don't pull the plug, but definitely DO NOT stop looking.

Don't hang all your hopes on this one as it doesn't sound promising.

FOR SURE dont stop looking. this is a major red flag after a MONTH?? this would turn me off completely. there are other companies that would offer you the same job and salary.

If they do end up giving you a written offer, I would ask to speak to your manager/hiring manager first and get an explanation on whats going on.

hard to believe you will have an awesome relationship with your new boss if this is how hiring goes.

Thanks TennisandSales! I agree with you. I'm so dissapointed by the way a so-called leader in the industry (one of the top 10!) behaves like this. Nothing surprises me anymore, but still.

You could always reach out and say something like "as you know, I have been actively looking for a new role. I would still really like to accept a written offer from you and work at (x) organizations. I have received a few offers since your verbal offer was given. Is there an opportunity for us to move forward now? Or should I take another opportunity that has presented itself?"

If they truly were going to bring you on board, they will respond giving you a better understanding of their process.

This is such a red flag for how the company operates. Maybe consider it a blessing if this falls through. I'm sorry your dream job is letting you down, though :(

Maybe followup once, asking for what's the status. Tell them indirectly, subtly that you've been looking out. Ask them for a clear picture - it's no brainer that they too are looking for other candidates. So tell them your gameplan.

Once they know you are looking out too, they might come back too.

You need to send a no-oriented question, it will get a response. Simply email them "have you given up on this?"
