Verbal offer rescinded

Has anyone ever been given a verbal offer and had it rescinded before because you appeared “too money motivated”? I’m not sure how to take that feedback. Also, would it be worth it to try and fight for them to give me the offer? Not sure I can trust a company who would do that.

That's garbage - Majority of salespeople are money motivated - sounds like a bad company and you dodged a bullet

That’s ridiculous. I’ve always seen that as a positive when hiring for salespeople

Wait, what?! That was their actual feedback - that you are too money motivated? This seems crazy.

Was this a response to you trying to negotiate?!

The company was huge on their mission, which I personally think I matched with quite well. Apparently not according to them. I think my questions around the commission structure, path to Account executive, and on target earnings must have led them to believe that money was more important than the software being sold? Idk I also think I dodged a bullet, but, the upside is now I know what kind of SAAS company I’m looking for.

those are the types of questions a good candidate asks.....Wanting to understand your career path should absolutely not be seen as a red flag.

Maybe follow up and ask for feedback specifically around that. Something to the hiring manager along the lines of "Can you help me understand where the disconnect is? It's completely fine if you don't see the fit, but I'm still in the job market and don't think that truly represents my character. I know you're busy with the interview process, but it would mean a lot to me if you can help me fully understand where things fell apart"

Blessing in disguise my dude.

Could you imagine how fd up their internal processes are if they said that bs to you?

Take the win.

Why did this feedback come after the offer? Did something change?

They said they were reviewing all the interviews that had anyone say anything but perfect things about. Someone said I care too much about money and not the company mission.

Well you don't work for the company yet so it would be a little weird for you to care for the mission.

Either way, any company that would rescind over something like that is sketch.

I think you need to ask for deeper feedback.

If they thought that you were 'too money motivated' as in it appeared you would do anything or cut corners to get a deal as you wanted commission, then that can be helpful as you can adapt certain answers or if you seemed more focused on doing a deal when their sales cycle may be 6 months+ and they thought that you would become impatient.

Wanted to give y’all an update, they gave me the offer back, I told them no thanks, and today got an offer from a better company. Soooo I hope they learned a lesson.

Sometimes, you hear the bullshit that is totally bullshit and you just can't believe the bullshit you just heard.
