Well I was more asking about addictions youโ€™d prefer to give up. Honestly, crack is an essential item.ย

If I didn't work in sales I think I'd be able to easily eliminate alcohol from my life (with the exception of the odd glass of wine with dinner or something.)

I don't have a drinking problem, at this point it's 1-2 drinks a week. But I know alcohol is not healthy for me, and it can quite easily get out of hand especially when those around aren't drinking modestly.

The trouble is that alcohol is so engrained in the culture of my office, and in most sales atmospheres in general I find. It's not to say I think I'd be made fun of or questioned if I told my colleagues I'm not a drinker. It's just easier (and more fun) to participate.

Hope that made sense.ย

It does.ย  Even if you're not pressured, social norms are easier to just align with rather than disassociating with.

It definitely makes sense and I think many of us have felt the same social pressure you did. Itโ€™s super smart and mature though that youโ€™re aware of the possible risks and keeping an eye on it. The awareness will definitely contribute to keeping it under control.

I set the expectation early at the office I don't drink. It definitely hits weird at first but people get used to it and respect you for it. (3 years dry, just use edibles once a monthish) I still hang at bars and order food and chat with people just to remind them im not crazy ๐Ÿ˜‚

Itโ€™s crazy how little healthy quick alternatives exist on the road. Before the pandemic (when I was still going on the road) I had started packing a lunch and eating my car just to avoid eating fast food everyday. Not very glamour but it worked for me.ย

Junk food/snacking during heavy dial days, always have a bowl of sour patch kids to keep the energy up.

Fast food on the road.

And weekend video game binges during lockdown, gyms are still shuttered locally so it's been hard to keep up an at home workout.

After eliminating caffeine and chewing tobacco, I am down to my final vice... Nicotine pouches. Zyn or On and only the citrus. They are my ride or die ๐Ÿคฃ

I used to work in the start up with a really chill attitude. I was doing my SDR calls with my feets on the table and a beer in hand.ย

Meeting were the same thing all the time, going to the pub, sit on a terrace with all the colleagues, drink and smoke until we were not able to walk straight.ย

By looking back I now understand that this big part of socialisation between colleagues and managers was done after the office hours. I was considered by my peers, only because I was the only SDR taking cocaine on the desk of my boss (with him of course).ย

I was aware of everything happening in the company because of those moments. I knew thing i shouldn't know.ย

Political games and social moments in the company strengthened all of my addictions. Not the job itself but everything that implied the fact of working with weirdos like me.ย

Thanks for sharing that @UnderQuotaย How you been dealing with it during lockdown? Has it helped not being in that environment?

I have a tendency to drink a lot and smoke a lot of grass. Fortunately I am not a big fan of harder stuffs.ย

So yes during lock down it was almost everynight until my mental health could not handle it.ย

from my point of view, addiction are less of a problem when you are surrounded by peers who can motivate you even with an Hangover.ย

Now i just do sport everyday and hide my booze.ย
So lockdown did not increase my addictions but it surely made me feel like shit about them.

solved it once but then returned to it when we worked remotely the structure of commuting and being in the 5am club vanished.
2nd is being dependent on caffeine nominally coffee and teas

I was in the cigar business but thankfully they are hard to come by in Egypt so that went away.

I don't know if being a sneaker head is a bad habit, but if that's where I spend most of my earnings...
