Video outbounding?

Sooo, question: I got a VP that's been watching too much LinkedIn influencer content or something of the like, and is pushing us heavy to use video in outbound motions and what not.

I mean I get it, people like a short personal video, but are any of my fellow degenerate SADNESS savages on here using it? Having success? Do you hate that shit?

I use it and actually like it a lot. Haven’t made a cold call since I started and I book a lot more meetings

@GlenRoss can you elaborate? Are you creating a pre-canned sales loft template?

Outreach sequences already built out with a gap and for each account I record a video and use that video for 2-4 people at each account

Are these tailored videos for each prospect? or just blanket videos?

Yes! Me!

granted, I will post a video on my LinkedIn page, Instagram, Facebook page, whatever as a “general” video. I absolutely have my target audience in mind when I make them. Something I know is an issue for them and how I have a solution or advice.

example (because I sell insurance): people hate insurance and insurance brokers, but they have to deal with us as it is a legal requirement. They hate us because it’s another cost that cuts into their margins. So a few of my videos have literally been titled “insurance sucks! Let’s change that”, or “think we’re all the same?” And then the content is about how I totally get that, and in this shitty market, increased costs are the last thing you need. So here are some ways to make it less shitty or something like that.

Then I upload it to YouTube, do a cover photo with Canva (go look up Finn McGinley aka the punk rock MBA for advice on how to make the best clickbait thumbs), write out an email giving a brief description of the vid and how it will help, then embed the vid in the email. So it’s general enough to hit some pain points, entertaining, but if they want more detail come find me. Obviously I follow up with a phone call and ask if they saw it and what they did or didn’t like.

it’s a great way to open the door, and even if they’re throwing the best objections ever, pivot to “well I’d love some advice. What would you suggest I do better? What issues could I address that would really resonate with you?”. Gets them talking. Even if you don’t close that day, you will eventually.

It also gives you an online presence so you’re not “just another sales person”. I bring up personal experiences to make me relatable.

Hey there! I'm gonna start off by saying that using video in my interactions (prospecting, follow-up's, and throughout the sale cycle) have been very positive.  These have been used in traditional industries like financial services, banking, hedge funds, commercial real estate, valuations, etc. and I've received a lot of receptiveness and people asking me how I got into using video (no kidding).  I use video in my emails, text messages and linkedin messages. The ultimate goal is to create an immediate connection with my audience, and to stand out and cut through the noise.  The worst thing is people don't respond. But we're in sales so who cares, right? What I've done to get myself comfortable to using video is consume tons of info from companies such as: Vengreso, Vidyard, Dubb, and also follow Morgan Ingram (who I believe has a video here). There are definitely a couple of do's and don't's that can make your video feel easy to do.  Morgan has awesome tips on it.  So far I love using video for sales. Let me know if I can help you or support you in any way. Good luck.

Oooo what apps do you use? Currently using teleprompter, videoleap and kapwing but fuuuccckkkkkk kapwing is annnoying for subtitles. Got a better suggestion?!?

also started simply using the reels app in Instagram because the filters are amazing. Like, I don’t even have to really put on makeup to look like I put on makeup 😂

Go have a look at Loom, amazing to record your screen and you also get a notification when they watched your content :)

I feel you!!! So for makeup filters I've been literally trying out zoom's filters, you can set it up to where you open up the app and the filters are saved to how you set them (very cool). Neither Vidyard nor Dubb offer the makeup filters but I would definitely feel inclined (now that we're talking about it) to send them a video suggestion. They produce all the cool analytics like Loom and they have a free version to try out, but they are missing the critical filter setting we need.

I also use teleprompter but let me find out for you if there is better option than kapwing. Some of my entrepreneur colleagues use these on the daily, I'm sure they'll have a better suggestion.

We don't use zoom at all, we use Webex unfortunately. No filters, backgrounds or anything fun. There were two backgrounds for a hot second but that got killed quickly.

Also, my company won't allow me to install Loom on their devices which really, really sucks. I've just been relying on embedding a link to a youtube vid in a picture in my emails. Should try out those other options for analytics, or at least try to see if I'm allowed lol.

it's easier than writing an email. i also once had a CEO essentially say, "you should send videos. i don't have time to read your emails, but listening to a video clip is easier."

I use it and it works. And it will work until all VPs of Sales catch on and force reps to do it half-heartedly and ruin it for everyone.

There is some seriously bad shit, for sure. I don’t need to see another boring white dude in front of a company logo reading a corporate approved script ⚰️

Sadly, that is what the higher-ups want, corporate branded videos. It is frustrating.

I use it for warmer prospects to show demos of the product etc. Not a fan of the cold outbound video, waste of time

Same. My biggest concern using for cold outbound would be email deliverability attaching a video. A lot of time wasted for something that a lot of spam filters will block.

wrapped in the middle of a sequence after you’ve already “made it through” might work though.

I've yet to do videos - but after reading the thread, I am considering it. I've used pictures to be more personalized. The pictures are relatable to my email's content and have been quite successful in getting contacts and meetings.
