Vidyard: Yes or No?

I just startred tooling around with Vidyard. I have heard mixed reviews on how prospects react.

Has anyone used it? If so, what type of feedback did you get? If it worked, any tips to get the best results?

Thanks!

Do you/Have you used Vidyard?

I have used it. Total waste of time if you use it for prospecting. Most of them go unwatched because they are sent via email...and most emails go unopened according to a million studies done.ย

Vidyard is good in 2 and only 2 situations.ย
1. Enterprise ( true enterprise) Sales where you can spend all morning recording videos and don't have to crank out volume and you don't have good phone numbers so you have 1 chance to make a first impression.ย
2. After a conversation has happened. Video is great for keeping in touch...during a sales process for demo recaps...etc.ย

I have lots of research to prove my theory...I can go into my companies vidyard account and see all the sales reps vidyards ( almost 1k sales reps) and the vast majority have 0 views. Its not worth the time for cold prospecting.

I invite a vidyard sales rep or bombbomb rep to show me their video library and prove me wrong :)ย

Tell me about your written strategies in those emails you send out.

thereโ€™s more to a Vidyard than just dropping a video in an email and expecting results.

im in the enterprise space and I probably send 5-7 videos a day and generate majority of my self gen business from
video prospecting...

Iโ€™d love to see your research...because thereโ€™s millions of studies that say otherwise so perhaps Iโ€™m missing something?

@NorthernSalesGuruย I have been using it to just overlay a video of my head onto a prospect website with a quick message.ย  ย How else are you using it?ย  What have you found to work?ย  ย  I'm sure I haven't even scratched the surface on its functions!

Also, what product are you selling into the enterprise space?

I appreciate the feedback:)

Thanks!

My research is anecdotal. I have access to nearly 1000 vidyard accounts and they are a barren wasteland of unwatched videos.

Here is my thing...those positive responses you got..how many of them were in a buying window already?ย

I have an unproven theory that timing is the #1 most impactful data point for any response to cold outreach.ย

So if someone was already kind of looking for my product...did they respond because I sent a video? or was the timing right.ย

Enterprise sales is a good example. Noone is going to decide to enter into a buying process because of your video. So of those people that respond to your video..i would be interested to know how many were looking already?ย

love this conversation..its a hot topic and I have not seen a study that says the time is worth the opps.ย

Righttt...

the fact companies like Vidyard are thriving and you have access to thousands of videos without success leads me to believe you perhaps need to evaluate the whole process and your strategy...

Iโ€™d challenge you to consider what your goals are for video.ย

if youโ€™re expecting people to buy right away and strictly off an outreach, perhaps sales are different in our part of the world...

unless youโ€™re selling something highly transactional and low value, chances are no one is going to just immediately enter a sales cycle from any sort of email.

I work in a world where people wonโ€™t just willingly say, โ€œletโ€™s buy I need thisโ€...instead i seek to understand if they have pains which my solutions solve for.ย

video usually helps me reveal some L1 pains. The rest is on me.ย

I want your output on videos yo, how long does it take for you to crank those out? I try making videos but they take a huge chunk out of the day and I do have to make calls so i want to become better at making those. I end up making 2 o 3 videos in like 2 hrs.

Yup im with you. Don't sell a transactional product and dont expect anyone to buy on the spot. But I also don't sell to the enterprise so cant spend most of my day on a handful of videos.

I agree that vidyard and bombbomb appear to be doing well. Of course we cant know for sure as we dont have access to their financials. But that doesnt mean much right? They have told an amazing story, carved out their only little category, and done wonderful marketing. I still havent seen research come out that says that video prospecting is more effective than quality email/call prospecting. Again im happy to be wrong and ill dust off my own vidyard account and give it a whirl again. I would love if video was a silver bullet for me and increased my effectiveness. In my experience it has the same effectiveness as a good email except it takes me 5x as long. Just my opinion

I would recommend doing more research on video outreach.

if it takes you 5x as long youโ€™re doing something wrong...

The main use I've seen for Vidyard is to do an overlay of a video on a prospect's website as the background.ย  Apparently, it helps open rates.ย  Are there other uses?

It wont help the open rate of the email itself..so thats the first hurdle. A stellar open rate on an email template is 60%+. So if you record 100 videos..only 60 of those emails are getting opened.ย

Lets say you spend 5 minutes on each video ( research and recording, waiting for it to load, inserting into an email, writing text in email, sending)

5 minutes x 40 emails that are never opened = 200 minutes wasted right out of the gate. Thats almost 3 and a half hours. Gone

Ok so now you have 60 opened emails ....lets say 50% of them watch the video ( thats alot) ....now you add another 30 wasted videos..another 3 hours wasted. We are up to 6 hours wasted. Almost a full day.ย

A good response rate on any email is 10%..lets go with 20% to make this way better.ย

Most of those will be "not interested" or "great video but bad timing".ย

So you got 20 responses and you open maybe 2 opps but you spent 8-10 hours for maybe 2 opps and with a stellar close rate of 30% you still have not closed a deal.

So again my beef is that the math just doesnt make sense for most sales reps. IF you only need to close 1-5 deals per quarter then video is great.ย

But most reps sell to SMB's and Mid Market and need to close 5-10 deals a month. So the math again just doesnt add up to me.ย

Change my mind. I just don't see it.ย

I would also assume if it's got a video embedded, it's going to spam folder.ย

This is similar to the advice I got when I asked this question.ย  I have to say it's been working well for me as a follow up tool!ย  I've also started using it for mini demos - like under 2 minute quick hit of one specific thing.ย  Customers have liked that because they can refer back.

I prefer Bombomb to vidyard, but @SalesSpectreย has nailed this topic ๐Ÿ”ฅย

It doesn't matter what the video is as it's enveloped in an email.

video is cool. buts its utterly reliant on the channel in which it is delivered...email. And email is a tough and noisy channel

I use it somewhat nontraditionally - to deflect from a 30-minute demo with a quick answer/overview,ย  give a guided walkthrough for the closing process, etc.ย  I rarely use it for prospecting.ย

I totally use it for two things;
1. creating 'quicky' GIFs (not personalised) of me pointing to the previous email or something like that in prospecting. Get good replies on those, even if it is just a friendly no.
2. I use it to create a video going through an offer I'm sending. That stuff is really powerful!

Its in the same ballpark of Vidyard from what I'm told.ย  My Sales Op leader likes it because its more of a "content experience" with video vs. just a video.ย  I've been trying to improve our customized proposal delivery for awhile to include a "video walkthrough" and he hit me up for a demo.ย  Pretty sharp.ย

OneMob is cool. I like it for a sales process because it has that video element but you can include other resources like a slide deck, one pager, quote..etc. Instead of all that being buried in an email thread or a boring, long email. Very coolย

This is very anecdotal feedback-

I've had no success with it as a cold messaging strategy (granted, I use it when all else has failed), but I've heard that women have more success with it than men as a cold messaging strategy.

What it's really good for is recaps and keeping hidden influencers/dms in the loop between calls. A video for Amanda about specific questions she had or use cases of a features is much more powerful than a generic 1 pager or product video.ย

Someone else will mention it if it hasn't been mentioned, but links and videos can get screened via email filters. Some people send these as DM's via linkedin to get around that.

At the end of the day, all that matters is your experiences and results with it. Give it a shot and good luck!

Literally ZERO success with it.ย  I stopped wasting time on it.ย  I was excited to do them but I think structurally making the prospect click on the video sends red flags.ย  It should be embedded into the email to play upon opening and not based on a click, I think the success would drastically change.ย

I agree; embedded would be a lot better and also decrease chances of it dropping into the spambox.

Videos are definitely an effective medium when used properly. Iโ€™ve had much more success with LinkedIn video as opposed to email since you are sending them to an existing connection. Great responses from high value prospects, and they always say they appreciate the personalization. Takes 2 mins and itโ€™s worth it.

Best takeaway for me: Sales, like poker, is a repeatable game and should be played as such. Second place: "Quit more."
