Most tattoos are not going to get a second look from most people because they're so common these days. The exceptions would be in the fields of law, banking, and accounting where people are generally more buttoned up compared to the average.

That said, face/neck tattoos are not as common as an arm or leg tattoo and are more likely to be distracting and/or have people questioning your professionalism. Are they right to question it? No, but that's just how it is right now.

That's why I said "generally," boo. There are always exceptions...if you want an exception you better be bringing your A game tho.

Oh totally. They’re not gonna care about some lilies or a wolf or some shit.

They will care about skulls and nekkid ladies and satanic shit. Which I may or may not definitely have.

I'd rather buy from someone with a dope neck-piece than from some douchebag named Brad in his newest Vineyard Vine's polo...or a boomer.

Hilarious! Thanks for that, read it twice and then realized I am nearly one of those guys, but I am also heavily tattooed and trying to not be either.

This has been asked, but I’ll answer again as someone with a full bodysuit in a stuffy industry.

It depends.

I do my best to hide them but it’s simply not possible. I do, however, make sure that I own my shit and project confidence because the moment you think about it, everyone else will too.

At the end of the day, if you’re crushing your numbers and providing value, no one will give a fuck.

But wear long sleeves and pants all the time.

Dress professionally, and you should be fine.  It's less of a big deal these days.   If you look professional and you know your stuff, you'll overcome any residual hurdles.  Good and great sales reps have come in all shapes and sizes over the years, with some having to overcome more bias than others, but not letting it hinder them.

Depends on the industry, and your audience (buyer). My forearms are covered in fun/stupid tats from my youth. I usually let them breathe. Unless I’m having meetings with upper mngmt in finance, law, gov’t, energy, etc. That’s when they get hidden.

Most people don't mind tattoos -- many in my field (info sec) have a lot of ink. A teardrop tattoo may raise an eyebrow.

If you're asking if your *should* get a face/neck tattoo, i'd advise against it.

Yeah, definitely depends on your customers, but I think in most circles, tattoos are totally acceptable now. I have zero tattoos, but I'm often the only person in a room with zero tattoos.

Those are the 3 spots to avoid imo, yes it's much more accepted now but that doesn't mean your DM's feel that way.

Especially face & neck.

I see where you are coming from here. Also I'd add that it totally depends on the vertical.

I am heavily tattooed. I have several tattoo's on my fingers and a small one on my face. I have not yet met prejudice because of it. I am currently working as a manager.

What i experience today is - most people do not really care about tattoos. They look at your knowledge, numbers etc. and base what you can do for the company upon that.

-Not what is on your skin.

I can only speak for myself. I have never experienced being judged based on my tattoos in any work-related circumstance.

If it stops you from getting a job, that probably is not a company you want to work with anyway. I have worked in jobs where I kept getting told to shave my beard, and to be honest their ideas were so old school that the company was miserable.

Thanks everyone for affirming my thoughts. Funny that I spend so much money on tats only to cover them up and worry about it. I guess I just think about how you are going to see a lot more face/neck/hand tattoos at a methadone clinic then you are a boardroom but that is slowly changing (and probably offensive to those in recovery or with visible tats, sorry).

It's offensive to anyone who has tattoos. That includes me.

Pro tip: stop giving a fuck about what people think and just fucking grind.

Obviously I'm the old fart on here.  Tattoos are a generational thing.  My father had them from WWII and my two sons do now.  You've got about 10 more years until the Boomers are out of the ranks of executive management.  Cover them up and don't give anyone a reason to judge you.

I worked in a Finance job where we sold Fuel cards to trucking companies, and the owner wanted me to wear khakis and a navy blazer on client calls. I was talking to someone in a grease stained Harley Davidson shirt looking like I just left Miffy at the yacht club. It was miserable.
