Volunteering as a way to prospect

During professional associations time - it was my prospecting go to (yes I am that old), but now with LinkedIn, curious if anyone is still using this route to prospect and has any tips on how to combine it with social selling of today.

That seems like a ton of work for not so much return

It is, I am curious if newer generation is using this option. For me giving is a good karma, I do it with low expectation of return. In the past it was way more beneficial than now daysΒ

It's a good idea. Most people driven by philanthropic endeavors outside of work will tend to work with like-minded people they can trust and volunteering for a similar cause will bridge that gap way easier than not.

I think for it to work it would have to be organically. People volunteer to give back and better a community, not to be sold to.Β

If someone joined an org and happened to hit it off with someone who happened to have a need for what they're selling, that's fine. But taking a volunteer position just to further your own financial interests is not classy.

True, this is why I am asking. It's a way longer goal, but the prospects could appreciate the time investment and the effort into their favorite organizations. Same as offering charity donation as a thank you for a discovery call

One of my biggest pet peeves are businesses who support charities/non-profits they have as clients...it's considered a big no no in the insurance industry, where I work because it's a conflict of interest. Doesn't stop people from doing it though. If you believe in a cause, donate with no strings attached.

2. In addition there is a different volontering option, I wasn't refering to volunteer in community organizations, I was asking about profecional associations πŸ₯°

Fair enough. I think it's more acceptable to prospect within a professional association vs a charity.

I volunteered once and it was at a underprivileged grade school. They tried to steal my phone so it’s a no from meΒ

Oh no, so sorry. Did you ever tried to volunteer in your targeted industry association?

AE’s - here’s a very client-centred way to gather information about β€˜WHEN’ a decision needs to be made. Doing it this way will help you shorten sales cycles and build trust. Keep in mind - not every question I ask in this example is a perfect fit for every buyer, but should give you a good place

How do you all handle a situation where a prospect has a contract approved and is ready for signature, but one of their family members just passed away? Want to be extremely sensitive to the situation...feel there's never a "right" time to reach out and never want to be salesy...
