war room feedback

Pulse check - how are we all liking things so far? As the first cohort, I think it's helpful to voice feedback sooner rather than later. I'll start:

I love the Popular section, but it would be great to have this evolving more often so we can see more discussions!

I wish there was an easier way to see replies to my posts and comments (currently only notified via email but no way to see in-app)

Is commission hurting or helping? I'm afraid some upvotes are missed or substituted with "agree" replies because it gives the other user commission. The goal should be to drive important topics towards the top of the queue for better discussions... not necessarily keep the focus on moving up the leaderboard with commission! No ideas here, just a thought.

What else do you all think?? cc @GeneralCorp @MrBravado

Agreed here and we are very actively discussing how to incentivize more upvoting. Ultimately there is a little chicken/egg issue with promoting discussion/rewarding people for doing it. We are definitely looking at the ability to classify responses as more useful than others... including a response limit against time. (IE. you get 3 comments every 10 mins).

a lot to consider but please, please, give us all your feedback.  If you want a mobile app. TELL US.

Few things in the works already:
-In app notification system
-Better algo to promote some new content as well as popular content
-expanded leaderboard visibility
-Ability to bookmark posts
-Ability to follow users
-more badges/achievements
-A portfolio to track your sales career (not public facing)
-Starting posts at 1 rather than 0.

There are many more but super granular.

I would 100% want a mobile app. Overall more practical.
And I agree with Exec that it would be great to be able to be notified within the platform when we get a reply or someone comments on our post (rather than an email notification).

Totally forgot to mention our top prio right now is a notification system. That is in the works as we speak. Great call.

If its not already in the works, could you also include a notification for when someone votes in a poll you created ?

agreed there's a chicken/egg issue with promoting discussion/rewarding people. in future versions the algo will be interesting - especially considering the effects of more and more users joining (i.e., the threshold for getting a "your post is fire" notification). excited for what's to come and will continue sharing feedback but glad this brought a solid discussion!

one other thing i'll call out here @GeneralCorp - it would be great if users weren't rewarded for replying to threads... the volume of emails I'm receiving from people saying "agreed" to responses is crazy!

of course devils advocate perspective would say "this will disincentivize people to respond and share best practices" but on the other hand, people will get more upvotes for meaningful responses.

There is a LOT of content being added quickly. And finding content that relates to "my needs at this moment" can be hard. Of course, currently the number of users is low, to help work out the kinks.

With 15 topics, we essentially have 15 lists of ideas -- perhaps the first 20 / top 20 posts in each topic category is the equivalent of "1st page results of a google query". We know what happens to "Page 2 results."

What will happen when there are 20K, 30K, 40K members? We still have 15 lists of ideas. And the top 20 ideas in each list will have "incumbent advantage" and continue to see the most "action."

I suspect / fear, that will become a gating factor, for content, engagement, and return visits. Imagine arriving to the War Room in six months. It will be much harder to get your posts noticed.  If you're good ideas are being ignored, will you feel encouraged to add more? To return?

The War Room is different from LI or FB. Those systems have a "feed" - temporal content that flows by. Nothing stays at the "top" of your view. They aren't trying to be a reference resource.  Reddit has gazillions of sub-reddits - to allow micro-conversations on pin-point topics.

Adding a "quality" metric - like Amazon's "Star-rating" can help surface the best quality posts - not just the oldest posts that have accumulated the most upvotes.

Adding search capability can help. But again, there are so many conversations and content, and zero-ing on "the good stuff for my need" might be hard.

Adding many more fine-grained topics - or nested sub-topics - can help. That would help distribute content across more topic-categories. That might also help focus discussions.

What's being build here is different, and new. That's awesome. And unpredictable. And exciting!

Anyway, that's enough from me! :D

At the end of the day, we are all sales people here. We will do what we are incentivized to do.

This needs to be closer aligned with making this community a great resource for sales people.

Here is a summary of what i’d like to see:

- mobile app

- commission tied to earning badges

- commission for every post made on a thread you started (minus your own comments but still earn commission for the upvotes on your own comments on your own thread)

- commission for every response made to your comment

- better algo and categorization of threads to recognize and encourage insightful discussions

Liking it a lot so far! Agree with the points raised in the OP.

I would like the ability to open threads in a new tab...I can't seem to find a way to do that.

Agree with all of your points. We are all sales reps here, and I'm assuming we are competitive. There should be incentive for upvoting, because otherwise people are just going to comment like you said instead of upvote. Maybe the person with the most upvotes given gets a small prize too?

Problem is incentivizing upvotes is that someone could just indiscriminately spam upvotes for commission. What other ways could we incentivize supporting good posts?

we are considering any response to a post ALSO give an upvote.

Definitely do that.

I have a post about Gong.io

It has 40 some odd comments and like 3 upvotes to the thread itself. Thats not proportional. And as a result, I acknowledged each comment with a response. In part because I appreciate the feedback but also I want more recognition via commission of the post that i started.

I like the idea of rewarding folks with many upvotes - but can it be calculated as a ratio/average across their posts - and not a total accumulated across all their posts?

That way, the reward is more for the quality of the posts, not as a result of having made lots of posts. Or maybe a blend of the two - quality and quantity?

I'm competitive as all hell. So far, I haven't seen a way to expand the leaderboard so that I can visualize where I stand today and how many points I am away from getting to the next spot of higher up to where I want to be.

With that though, it comes down to content being posted as well. I could very easily see people coming in and firing osf multiple posts a day to gain points, yet the posts are not of the quality we (hopefully most of us) are here for. Fine line, and tough to gauge that.

Thats the reason to have downvotes. If someone spams content. Downvote it. We do need the community to set the precedent of what makes good content vs bad. I think that decision isnt ours at Bravado but yours as users.

I like that and to MrBravado's reply, that is what sets this apart from any other platform and why it will be a huge success!

No more algorithms showing me what it thinks I want to see.

I think in app notification where you can click on the notification and see the comment.
If there is a way also to "star" or follow a discussion so it would be bookmarked
Deeplinking to comments is a very important one mentioned by @CuriousFox
I was gonna say tagging but that exists.
I don't like your proposal of response against time "in general" but can be within a thread this can force someone to contribute in other threads.
Yea the leaderboard if you can click or have scroll option to see say the top 100.

Excited to hear you are working on a mobile app. Currently I would prefer to participate through my phone, but it regularly freezes my browser. Not an issue that I have faced before on other sites. I imagine I would be far more active if I didn't have to be on my laptop.

I love Bravado.  This has given me a ton of great feedback and a platform to indulge my experiences to benefit others.  Content does get lost in translation - I think that does have to do with the Commission - new posts equal comms.

An idea - taking the top 5 - 10 users to identify the content they deem valuable.  i.e., @curiousfox.  Users like that always tend to find valuable content - and upon their decision, they can pick the top-10 posts that should be highlighted for that week.

To keep things fair, changing those users up every month.  Personally, for those like myself that take a lot of time to provide content that is engageable, educational, and conversational becomes tedious when it's completed b/c 15 people make posts at the same time about topics that don't capture the essence of what you're trying to do here.

Just a thought - Other than that, this is my favorite forum.

Can distinguish between activity and "quality" activity, somehow...like in sales. Both are good but the latter is better. Recognize, however, that may dissuade engagement when folks are already crunched for time.

In the vein of helpful threads, what about we get a section here to "clip" replies or threads you want to come back to?

(It's entirely possible this feature exists, and I haven't found it yet)

It depends. I've only made that jump going from one organization to another and I can tell you that one of the challenges with stepping into a team leader role is getting up to speed quickly so you can be a valuable resource for your team and earn their trust because, starting off, they know more about the product than you do so don't be too eager to correct the way they are doing things.
