I think it generally means that youโ€™ll likely be expected to work outside of the duties of your specific role and wear many hats.

Depending on your outlook, that could lend itself to toxicity but it depends.

I think this is a pretty accurate description.

I agree. To me it means itโ€™s high growth and โ€œsalesโ€ may not always mean โ€œsalesโ€. Back at LOQI I was in sales, ops, cs and moreย

Well I want to define what is toxic in order to know whether say doing things beyond your JD is toxic or not?

I would use that to describe where I currently work, which I consider to be the best company of my career.

For us we are a pre-ipo unicorn and we have a great culture. ย But change is constant from process to product. ย You might be tapped on the shoulder for special projects your responsibilities might change a bit.

I think it can be a cover for toxic in certain circumstances. ย The same way Unlimited PTO can mean โ€œhahaha you'll never have a day off.โ€

It's such an overused word. In today's business environment, this is the norm.ย

That's a good point. Come to think of it, I can't recall a company that I've interviewed for that didn't describe themselves as 'fast paced'.

I also find it funny when there's a job posting that requires knowledge in MS Office.

Coming from a B2B2C environment, the term fast-paced is โ€œbusiness as usualโ€

It can mean all 3 answers...

Itโ€™s very situational. Keep digging.ย

It probably means high turnover.

so toxic?ย

Maybe, but to me, toxic implies that there is intended negativity when high turnover could just mean that they hire people straight out of college or have an old school mind set that doesn't sit well with everyone but others are able to find success by just grinding.

I think the term toxic gets thrown around too much now a days when it really just may imply fundamental difference in opinion, in this case, what is expected of someone at a sales role.ย

Or just that they expect too much out of the people from the rip and don't offer enough support or training as people delve into the role.

It really depends on the culture and "vibe" of the company. Fast-paced can mean sloppy..or it can mean that it's ambiguous of what your daily responsibility is, or it means you're rocketing so fast you can barely keep up...it could mean exciting. What "fast-paced" is, is an overused buzzword to make you feel excited about using a mouse and keyboard all day every day.

I always ask the hiring manager to elaborate when I see this. Means different things at different organizations, but the answers for this thread seem spot on in most cases.

More responsibilities could mean big career move in near future..depends on how we perceive and move with it
Hard to directly correlate to toxicity
