Wearing a Hat in Internal Zoom Meetings

Do you consider wearing a hat in an internal meeting inappropriate? I'm not talking about presentations, or client engagement meetings. I'm talking about wearing a hat with your immediate sales team and direct reports/line manager. I fully admit that occasionally I will do it, but I feel as though it screams, "I didn't take a shower and comb my hair this morning." Do you feel it's appropriate?

Note:

This only applies to salespeople, I'm not talking about those subhuman pieces of shit called interns. They better be wearing a full 3 piece suit if they are brave enough to show their fucking faces. Just thinking about interns makes me want to line them up and have them do wall sits with a full tin of Grizzly in while reciting shit call scripts.

Is wearing a hat in internal zoom meetings appropriate?

If your boss gives you shit about wearing a hat, they have bigger problems.ย

I wear hats all the time. External, internal, court. Don't matter. And I do not consider "oh well i'll not wear a hat because the other person might not like it". IDGAF. Even if they thought that initially, after I close them, they won't give a damn.ย

My manager wears a cap often so I wear it too.. Never tried a hat but I don't care or mind because my boss is open minded.

I wear hats all the time. Internal or external. My director wears hats. Might be industry-specific but its very common in my world.ย

PS. Can even be a good way to small talk and build rapport. I've had people asked about my hats which is an easy way to break the ice. Its like commenting on someones zoom background but less of a cliche.

I usually deal with government clients who are still wearing suits in meetings. Fucking scrubs

I don't like it, but internally I see no issue with it. As long as the higher up's on that call don't view you as a slob for doing it.

Personally I wouldnโ€™t. I feel like itโ€™s one of those things that shouldnโ€™t matter at all, but I know it does to some people so Iโ€™ll just take it off for the meeting if Iโ€™m wearing one that day. I couldn't care less if anyone else is wearing one though.

Definitely in North America. Although I will say in my last company we had a meeting with our UK BDR squad, and a couple of them said they we're shocked members of our team were wearing them. They said over there its considered extremely rude for men to wear them indoors. They were in their lower/mid 20s so I thought that was really interesting.

Let your hat freak flag fly high.ย

As a few others said, says more about your boss if they care about a hat on an internal call.ย

I wear a hat on almost every call. Client facing, CEO and I've reached the point in my career where if someone is going to "judge" me for it, I really don't give a shit. I've got a ridiculous history of performance and know of companies who would allow me to wear a sombrero to meetings to join their team.ย  ย What you wear, what color your hair is, how many tattoos you have, etc. etc is irrelevant to your performance.ย

This works better in person, but I'm 6'5" 235lbs with a sharp beard and a tailored suit. You're going to remember me.

In 2021, it helps me stay detailed. Wake up shower dress nice and I'm clear and hungry.

Skip that and you start skipping other details.

Everyone on our Monday morning sales meetings looks a little rough, if they even bother to turn on their camera. Hats, tank tops, no one cares

I wear a hat in my internal meetings. The important thing is production, no matter what accessory you use. Unless someone superior to you says: don't use this, it's ridiculous and unprofessional.

While cares? They are internal? I mean look nice if you are having a one on one with the CEO. Other than that do you boo.

Internal is totally acceptable, external or with prospects I would say to lose the hat (even if it is a bad hair day) it just looks more professional without one.ย
