Weekly Slump

Hey guys I have been in a sales slump for the past couple weeks and am looking to start October with a fresh new start. On Monday's I find it hard to get started for the week and just want to stay in bed all day and then when I'm at my house I am distracted by everything, the laundry, dishes, cooking, cleaning, etc. Tuesday's and Wednesday's I am usually fine as as I can grind it out those days. But once it hits Thursday again its just hard to get anything done. What do you guys do to start out your Monday's strong and continue that effort throughout the whole week.

I think the first thing to call out is that this is really normal, especially if you are in an entry level role.

I usually find myself doing anything other than work/unmotivated when 1 of 2 things is happening:

1) I have so much on my plate I don't know where to start. I feel overwhelmed so instead of just starting I do nothing. What helps me solve this is just prioritizing what needs to get done in what order and map out what I need to do to accomplish each task. I then calendar out each task and just start knocking them out.

2) I am not confident I have the skills to accomplish the task at hand. When this happens I either talk to someone that has done it before to learn from the best, or I just roll up my sleeves and get after it in whatever way I think is best. This tends to be awesome because I realize that I am fucking good at what I do and solve for the initial problem, or I fail and learn from someone better.

Final thought, no one is ever going to love every aspect of their job. My manager once told me "a dolphin trainer only swims with dolphins 1-2 hours a day, he spends the rest of his time cleaning up shit"

I enjoy my weekends and release all the stress I had the past week. I'm always excited to work because may be I love my job, do you?

I think that could be part of the issue some days I like going to work, while others I really just seem to hate my job a lot. Not sure if it is the sales I do not like or what part of it that I don't enjoy. I am also entry level so this could play a part also.

I found when I was working remote if I treated each day like I was going to the office and having a routine around my day it set me up for more success.  If I just rolled out of bed threw on a shirt and jeans and then logged in I was useless for much of the day.

If you drink coffee make a cup and then go for a walk around the block dressed for work.  Then walk back in to your place of residence and go right to your work station and start the day.

Also writing down your thoughts on Sunday night or Monday morning on what you want to accomplish for that week will help get the week started off on the right foot.

I think I need to start making more of a routine at home, I just get lazy and stay in bed for too long and don't get changed which makes me feel slugish.

Make a plan for how you want your day to go. That way when you wake up monday morning it's not about trying to figure it out, it's simply "ok, I'll do what I mapped out to accomplish x,y, and z"
You sound burned out if this is what happens every week.

That is a good idea to make a weekly or even daily schedule. This might help to keep me on track.

Right, then you know what small actions to make to hit those numbers. I'm sure you're coached on getting a certain number of demos or meetings scheduled, but by focusing on specific tasks and how you do them it can feel like less of a drag to get to where you want to be.

I have simply accepted that Mondays will be my least productive day of the week. And Fridays. And the occasional Tuesday-Thursdays.

Best advice I ever received is to find something that motivates you. With the short paragraph above the root cause could be interpreted to be derived from a lack of motivational factors ie but not limited to (you don't have something to work for, you haven't sold in a while and now it's gotten to a point of apathy, some other outside factor is affecting your mental state) whatever it is there needs to be a better reason for you to want to work...

I get the Monday slump too. I also get the blues on a Sunday. It’s sucks. Hard to get over, it is. BUT. I tell myself on a Monday morning - right, Friday isn’t toooo far away but that isn’t the point, let’s treat THIS Monday morning as though it IS a Thursday or a Friday and then once I’ve put a good shift in, Tuesday comes and the week follows. Getting over that wall is fucking hard but try and do it once or twice and maybe even ten times and it won’t be as hard the eleventh.

I like to find time during the weekends (even just an hour or so between Saturday and Sunday) to take care of things like laundry, dishes, cleaning, groceries. I do a lot fo that when I'm watching TV.

Then I write a to-do list for Monday of larger ticket items - research on a specific prospect, setting expectations on specific activities, etc.

Lastly, I make sure I work out Monday mornings, which usually means a halfway decent bedtime Sunday night. Even if I don't touch my gym shoes the rest of the week, I workout Monday to get in the right mindset for the week.

Hope this helps!

First things first, as an SDR this is totally normally. The role can get really repetitive so you're definitely not alone in how you feel. 2 things that really helped me get out of a slump:

1) Wake up a bit earlier each day and establish a routine. For me it was making a real breakfast + walking my dog before touching my laptop

2) Schedule 10-15min breaks for yourself throughout the day. Every 2ish hours I would get up to walk my dog again or do a quick household chore.

Hope this helps!

I love the grind, the rejection, the failure, the 3 ex wives leaving me because I couldn't get hard without my managers approval. The long nights at the office drinking 7-11 coffee.
