Welp, I'm in trouble lol

Hey forum,

Welp, my team is in absolute free fall due to the VP of Sales and two AEs leaving; and now we are hearing rumblings of "territory" reassignments.

This is very bad, because everything in my pipeline right now has zero chance of closing before they make the territory switches; and the one deal I had will likely go to someone else.

Yikes.

Can’t you ask to retain the opp that you have worked on till now?

Holdovers are a real thing in many companies! I’d fight to retain the open, active opportunities.

It's only in the companies interest to do so. It would be an annoyance to the customer to change their contact halfway through.

True, I would definitely fight for that

Document everything and keep records to show if you get the opportunity to make your case to keep a certain account.

Ask what their territory alignment strategy is. If it’s an official data based strategy then you have the best shot at retention, even if your territory is reassigned. Just fight for it and make your case. Do they want a closed deal or throw it to the wind?

You might be able to get your top one if you fight for it, also you might inherit some layups

Ask if they want more AEs to leave b/c that's what's going to happen. Just divide the leaving AE's pipeline as evenly as possible. You know they won't hire anyone fast enough to get them in and running before 2023 Q2.

Fuck that. I would make the biggest stink over that if I was working deals and they reassigned them. They should give you 90 days to close any deals in your name. If they don't give you any kind of window fuck them, it's time to look for a job where they will value their employees.

what @diablo said. I would absolutely fight to retain any opps you already have in motion. Most companies will let you holdover a few that have a strong closing potential when territories shift.

I’ve walked the same journey recently.

What feels like the most practical and logical next action that puts you in a better situation than this moment right now?

I feel your pain. Start updating your resume, reconnect with your network and start searching for opportunities. Be proactive and not reactive. I wish you all the best.

This might actually give you some leverage...maybe? If the whole department is truly in disarray, position yourself as the hero. Offer to step up, be a positive voice/floor leader. And for damn sure...ask for that holdout deal if territories change! Good luck!

I (26M) have been in sales for 6 years now, how long until I have a nervous breakdown?
