What advice would you give a door-to-door fundraising teenager?

Hey Savages,
I just had the privilege to answer someone knocking at my door that wasn't a Jehova's witness..
I am guessing a 13-14 years old boy, selling chocolate within an organization that keeps teenagers out of trouble/out of the streets.

Here is the context and a bit of our convo:
✊ ✊ Hi, Sorry to bother you sir. (nervous behaviour, eyes are barely making contact, speak very softly, clearly uncomfortable and inexperienced)I'm with X org that keeps teenagers off the street and we are selling chocolat. Here is my permit. (Behavior hasn't changed)

So I smile: ok great (I just want to help him at this point and the sales savage in me just want to give him a chance...). What'd you got?

X, Y and Z chocolat bar (digging in his front lunch bag/pouch), they are 2 for $10 or 4 for $20!
Me: Can I buy only one?
Him (disappointed his tactic didn't work to upsell me): Yes 1 for 5$.

I bought one for $5, and I didn't want chocolate. Maybe my wife will! 😎

Out of all you saw here, he you could give him ONE advice, in less than 10 seconds before he leaves, what would it be?

What I told him in the first comment below.

I told him to start on a positive note: Instead of saying sorry to bother you, thank you for answering the door, and smile.

Did you tell him you're also in sales, trying to help?   Otherwise, it's yet another adult telling the dude what to do.  ;)

I would’ve pointed to my “no solicit” sign and told him to fuck off.

They call me Daddy, Sales Daddy
Having done my share of door-to-door growing up, I have a soft spot for kids doing it today.  If they are brave enough to come to the door and put themselves our there, I will probably buy something.

I would just tell him to keep it up and S.A.D.N.E.S.S.!

I always buy from the neighborhood kiddos. I'm a sucker for that good ass wrapping paper.

i agree saying "thanks for answering the door!" is a great line

I would also encourage him to just have fun with it. see if you can make someone smile or laugh....better chance of making a sale

In any sale there is emotional impact and rational impact. I think the emotional impact here is that someone would feel good helping a kid out - the rational impact he can play up is less bad ass little kids terrorizing the neighborhood if they raise enough money lol

Tell him to only carry $10s and $20s and so he can’t break change and they have to buy minimum 2 for $10.

Forget the sorry and really any greeting and just start with an excited, "We're raising money for BLANK! - can you help us out?"

can't turn down an excited kid very easily.

Learn what a pattern breaker is.... I would knock on the door and say do you want air duct cleaning?

No?

How about some chocolate instead.

You can make a lot more calls in a day then door knocks. On a real note though I probably woulda just gave him a 20 and taken 4

I love it when kids knock on doors selling things.  Reminds me of my childhood of Run-a-thons and getting pledges for events.

tell them its for a fundraiser but then actually keep the money for yourself. You'll spend it better anyway.
