What are some ways in which you leveraged a job offer to get a raise, etc. from current job?

What are a few of the ways that you've leveraged an outside job offer/interview request to get an increase in salary, commission, or other benefit from your current role/manager?

Obviously would probably have to be tactful in execution, but I am eager to hear your stories!

The counter-offer is considered a poison apple regardless of what role you're in at a company. I've never heard of this turning into something positive for the employee or the employer.

I did it once a few months ago. Went pretty well.

I told our GM i got an other offer, but did not want to leave. Only reason I was in doubt was because of the signaficant difference in OTE.

They gave me something extra (did not match), but that was the goal all along. They could give me this because I agreed to a lower sallary during the COVID period, so I was underpaid. Now I´m just ok.

This just happened to me. I got an offer on the table that I didn't look for, and spoke with my manager about it. told him I didn't want to leave the company and asked what my future in the current company looked it. I didn't get a raise, but now I'm being trained for a possible position down the line.

I think this is the way to handle it. It does not hurt your trust with the conpany, and it might get you that sweet scaling we are all looking for.

I think honesty and transparency will get you far, if a company doesn't appreciate it, that’s a red flag and you should leave. If you have more and better values than your company is not the right fit for you.

Just don't do it. You'll always be viewed as someone who likes to shop elsewhere and the trust will gone

Go to your boss and have an honest conversation. Don't use a counter offer. It makes it look like you have one foot out of the door. That's like telling your spouse you have another person who wants to F*&k you but you won't let them if your spouse gives you more.

Having a transparent conversation will help you long term and keep your relationship with your manager strong. Though, counteroffer strategy can be a good solution for a raise but that might also dampen your relationship. This is the experience I had.
