What are your opinions on WFH?

Here's mine. I think you should be given the freedom to choose. Obviously, it's up to the company and not you, but for those with families, hobbies that keep them grounded, and those who have moved to another state, is it worth it to move back to the city where your office is?

Some companies force you to come in for the sake of building "Office Culture" adding to extra commuting costs and leaving you with 2-3 hours less for your day to pursue other hobbies and spend time with family. I'd prefer WFH, but a day or two in the office is cool, just not full-time.

I also think it's fairly anti-progressive to not have some form of WFH for remote positions that you could hire people from states that can't move to hubs like Austin, SF, NY, etc

What are your thoughts?

Would you quit your job if you were forced back to the office?

I absolutely would quit if they forced me back full-time. There are a million open sales jobs right now and not enough people to fill them. Pretty sure I could go fully remote and get a raise

I interviewed for a company and told them I wasn't interested because they were fully in office. The next day, they told me they'd be willing to waive that. Companies don't have the leverage here, you do.

I agree with going into the office occasionally and if it’s beneficial to learn and while you are starting to sponge from the other people that are successful at the company, however if you are a contributor and are hitting your goals then I don’t see a problem with WFH or a hybrid option.

I think you should be in an office just like how it was over a year ago.

I've got to say, I think we disagree on almost everything paddy. Why do you think we should be in an office?

Why do u feel entitled to work from home permanently because of one anomalous pandemic when working from an office was a standard for the last 100 years?

Because we found out that it worked. All because it's been the standard doesn't necessarily mean it's the most efficient way to work

Edit: Also, comparing 2021 to 1921 doesn't seem like a very good comparison. This new internet thing is pretty cool

Oh really? You've found that it worked? Where's the data that supports the WFH versus in the office efficacy and what exactly is efficacy measured on?

Also, no, I'm not comparing 2021 to 1921. I said "in the last 100 years." That encompasses 1999, 2018 or 2019. You just picked apart an extreme of my argument to make your point. My entire point here is that business owners who have invested in infrastructure and have rent/mortgage payments have a little bit different of a take than the worker like you.

Well the data (measured on total sales) was pretty clear at my company, which is why they let us work remotely forever. So perhaps it was different at yours. But things are drastically different even from 1999, 2018, and even 2019 which is why I don't feel that's a good basis to go off. Covid sped up the building of WFH infrastructure. The world is just so different than even a few years ago

Quitting because your employer tells you to do something that was perfectly normal before last year is the most millennial thing I may have ever heard of.  I'd really hope that if you quit your job, it's for a lot of other reasons other than that.  If that's part of the equation, sure I get it.  But literally quitting solely because your employer tells you they want you to work from a designated workplace that they've invested resources into to support their workforce is frankly more than a little immature.  I know I'm in the minority on this opinion, I'm just a little sick of this "quit if I don't get my way" mentality.

I agree 100%

A lot of people I know only like working from home because they prefer to dress like a slob 24/7 or never want to interact with anyone unless they're getting paid for it...also an annoying millennial mentality and I'm a millennial myself.

Yep, I'm a millennial too, and it annoys me that many of my peers operate this way.

I would 100% quit my role if I was mandated to come in a certain number of days a week, but it won't happen. My manager told me I can work on the moon for all they care.

I don't mind being in the office, it's just that our hybrid model has literally proven to be more effective than full time wfh/full time in office. If my job can be done remote and I'm hitting #'s, you shouldn't care where I'm at.

I don't consistently make cold calls anymore. Never had too much luck from them and emails are getting a lot of traction so that's a better use of my time. I'm not afraid to hop on the ringer if something changes though
