What do we know about sales at Door Dash?

I have an offer for a regional account executive at Door Dash. Given the state of the restaurant industry, it seems like the perfect time to join and absolutely crush it.

Does anyone here work at DD or have you in the past?

I feel like the company is so corporate and massive I'd just be a cog in the wheel.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated

I just left a SaaS company in the restaurant space and worked in this vertical for the past 6 years.

Restaurants hate door dash (and pretty much all delivery companies for that matter) because they just suck the profits out of restaurants.

Beyond that, the restaurant industry is INCREDIBLY challenging to sell into right now. Owners cant hire enough staff to run their restaurants so they are very challenging to reach (and have been for about 18 months). They are very hesitant to take on any new platforms due to staffing issues and at this point have their delivery/takeout ops pretty ironed out and dont see a need to change what they are doing on that front.

Moving from the industry as a whole and thinking about just DD, you are going to be working in a REALLY high volume and super transactional space. There is not much strategy that goes into these sales cycles and very little complexity. Sales cycles are going to be as short as 15 minutes and youre onto the next. You missed the boat on making big money with them and are just going to be moving to a massive corp with a lot of red tape and limited impact on the org.

Idk what you do right now but I would not go work there if I were you.

No marketing, mayo isn't an MQL
Yep, I interviewed for a dark kitchen company and echo this was pretty much the style of sale when I dug into it.

I'd personally swerve on it unless it's a godly offer.

If im being fully honest I wouldnt go into the restaurant industry period right now. If you could have gotten on with toast a year or two ago that was your golden ticket. The rest is too fragmented and the industry is a mess.

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
I think they've already peaked. You're seeing things like CHOMP in smaller communities chuck out DoorDash.

I don't know enough about DD to have an opinion. Normally if your company knows you're interested in leaving, you're gonna be out the door in a few months even if you accept their counter to stay.

Restaurants hate DoorDash, so keep that in mind. You probably made a mistake telling your employer you're looking for another job.

You should probably look for another job but I wouldn't go to DoorDash.

My question to you - Do you want to switch from SaaS to partial SaaS? Do you see that adding a value to your goals?

“Given the state of the restaurant industry, it seems like the perfect time to join and absolutely crush it.” - Someone that knows nothing about the state of the restaurant industry.
Now that I’m done being a dick… Sorry - I had to - I grew up in the industry and I’m super defensive about it.
No don’t take the job at DD. They’re a shitty product and quickly becoming something we’ll all say “remember when…”
To @UrAssIsSaaS point - it’s a tough vertical and it’s even more difficult now. Unless the product you’re selling is staffing related or you’re in ERP costing/inventory related SaaS I would urge you to not go for a delivery SaaS or even a reservations one. Market there is crowded and owners/operators/Managers don’t have time to look into things. The model for selling these is also shit.
If you are looking to be close to the restaurant industry and stay in SaaS I’d look at up PlateIQ, Craftable, or EagleOwl.

accepting a counter offer is usually never a great idea. never is a strong word, but that hints to your org that you are open to leaving and were already one foot out at one point. when it comes time for promotions or even headcount reductions, it probably won’t work great in your favor.

Whenever I go out these days, I constantly see Toast. They seem to be doing well and I'd be looking into them if I was trying to sell into the Restaurant/Bar industry.
