What do you do with a fat commission check?

We all love that day when the payoff hits our bank account! Sales is an extremely hard profession and commission is a great tangible reward for that hard work! I'm interested in how y'all spend those BIG checks!

How do you use that commi$$$$hhhh?

I get my ass over to the liquor store and buy as many cases of Coors Lights as my new intern Theodore can carry. The rest gets invested.

I live within my means on my base, so I might put some towards a big purchase/holiday, but I otherwise save it.

This is one of the best pieces of advice I've gotten from the War Room. I can't remember who initially said it, but I remember seeing it months ago and I wish I would have known it when I had first started getting commission checks! I always thought the end of the month was an excuse to ball out, but I wish I would have treated it as an opportunity to save/invest more. Living off of your base is something that you HAVE to learn to do as a salesperson because there will always be down months. And anyone that didn't know already got a crash course in living off of your base last year!

Had to learn this myself when I first graduated, takes a hot second but you learn it as soon as your bonus starts to continuously paying stuff off.

Make sure to pay back your debt to her boyfriend too. This is no economy to be under water in.

I don't really change a thing TBH. It's my job, and who knows when the next big check is gonna hit.

Also, I just blew a chunk on diamonds and rubies and shit last weekend so I make sure I'm padded enough to do that when I feel like it without putting a dent in anything.

I usually buy something modestly nice for myself that I've had an eye on, then park the rest in various investments.

Prior to being debt free I used to throw my commish at debts. But I'm past that BS lifestyle now.

I gotta be honest. I’m terrible with money. Life is fleeting. I put an arbitrary amount in savings, I put an arbitrary amount in college savings plans, I pay bills and catch up, then I spend the rest. Fuck me man, what else am I supposed to do? What’s the point of a jet ski at 60 years old if you can’t ride it? I’m gonna get the good out my being while it’s worth getting.

FWIW none of the options you list are investing it. If you have the ability to invest it that should be your first choice. You don’t need to have 10 or 20k to invest start small and let it grow. Best choice you will make.

I've been renovating my house for the past year or so (with no end in sight) so most of the extra goes to that. I also collect legos, so when I have a good month I'll splurge on a set or minifig I really want/need.

I always trying a buy myself a little something as a reward.... sometimes it's as simple as a nice dinner or (if it's a BIG check) I'll take a little vacay. The rest goes to savings.

I echo a lot of the comments on here though - living within your base as a salesperson is an important skill to master. Feast or famine is a real thing, haha.

I just left a company with a crap commission so I saved every penny I could. Generally, I save and spend my base on essentials and my commission will go to drinks and fun stuff. With that said, if I close a whale of a deal, that money is generally spent quickly and stupidly (I am not the best at finances… help).
