What % do you expect your base to increase after annual review?

Hi all!

I have my annual review coming up and I was wondering what people typically are seeing for base salary increases?

For context, I surpassed my annual quota and ended up around 125% and sell software at a small company.

Thank you for your insights!

I was told anything that's 3% and lower is not keeping up with inflation which means you're technically making even less money.

When were you told that? Given current inflation, anything under 5% would be considered a reduction in pay.

Good call out.  I couldn't remember the exact number so I went with 3%.

3-5% is the standard for high-performing employees, in my experience. Anything more is a conversation about a total compensation change/raise.

I saw 28% lift. but that was after a year straight of hitting goal and i had been here for two years.

First, look to make sure you base is competitive with the market rate.
Second, if it is and you hit 125%, I would be asking for minimum 5-7% increase.

I'd expect it to be inline with or slightly ahead of inflation.

3% was last year. Not sure what it's going to look like next.

It can sometimes being zero depending on attainment. But if you're hitting quota and quota is going up, my goal is to not lose my commission % with my base salary matching that lift in variable OTE.

5% if I'm not elevating my role.

I would say the average (at least for my company) is between 3 - 5%

This is interesting to see, in Canada I've rarely seen increases for basically any colleague in a bunch of companies over the last almost decade.

I have gotten a few, but they seem to be the exception rather than the norm.

Agree with the inflation piece mentioned by others.

3% was standard at my last company, if my role/title didn't change.

I feel like this is something that might be included in your compensation plan. If it's not, I would determine if it's negotiable and can be added in for 2022.

Akin to athletes negotiating performance/awards bonuses in their contracts, reps should be negotiating annual salary increases to, at the very least, keep up with inflation. Obviously, this is dependent on performance. Anything less than 5% is hurting yourself.

Great that some get annual lifts. Most of the smb/mature startups I’ve worked for have not had any annual raise at all…unless you go fight for it

If I attain 150%+ I ask for 10-15% + stock. One caution, sometimes a higher base pushes you to a higher quota. Depending on your pipeline it may not be worth it.
