What do you look for in your next move?

When you're fed up, ready to move it and lose it - what are you looking for, what do you like to see to make a decision?

Comp (base)?

Comp Plan (OTE breakdown)?

Management Style?

Product?

Manager?

Team?

..culture?

*Edit* - To provide a bit more context I received a promotion and then the entire management team above me left. From there the changes have been consistent and it just hasn't been stable enough to get my feet under me. It seems like the direction we're headed into is unknown and I'm just along for the ride. Ultimately I'm just tired of having no stability and or growth opportunities left - I feel like I've squeezed enough out of where I currently am.

To add to this the product is great and the comp was ok. I'm also currently lucky enough to be weighing a couple offers which is why I'd like to cut it down with some criteria.

*another edit* - This would be mid-market player/coach AM going to Enterprise AE most likely.

What fed you up? That’s the most important reason. I am a CMO at a company I co-founded and I took interviews last year when I was getting frustrated with my comp plan. I got an offer in hand before I approached my ceo and renegotiated my structure. It went through like a fish in water, which was nice. Then I declined the other offer (which paid significantly better) just because what was causing me frustration was resolved.

A lot would depend on why I was leaving my current company in the first place.

If its money, I'm going to prioritize compensation.

If my manager was a dick head, it's going to be leadership/management style.

If the company was full of dick heads, it's going to be culture.

There are plenty of things anyone may be looking for when changing employment. Your question is way to general.

Are you currently in this situation and looking for advice? Provide some context and I promise you'll get some great advice. Some smart ass advice too but hey we're in sales, we are all smart asses.

A good product, good pay (base+commission would need to be hirer than my current),  and a flexible scheduled where I don't have anybody looking over my shoulder.

Made the move last year and this was my criteria. Still remains...

At my stage in my career I am looking for this:

1) Does it align with my passions both professionally and personally. If not personally, does it enable me to pursue my personal passions.

2) Comp plan--I am now in ops, so I'm not down to carry a variable that isn't tied to my specific outputs. If I am relying on reps that I can't influence to hit their quotas, then I know they don't value my role.

3) Do I enjoy the team I'll be working with. Are we dealing with a mature organization or a bunch of 1st timers? I have little patience for feet dragging...we gotta be prepared to sprint.

4) Am I gaining something from joining this company? Is it earning potential? Is it upward mobility? Can I get to my end goal as a professional here? Are they likely to be acquired/IPO? What am I getting out of this?

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
Minimizing the number of times I want to throw a chair out the window is honestly my biggest priority right now.

Agreed with most posts depends on why you’re fed up.
my opinion: 1.comp and base need to pay the bills and save $2k a month (this goes into investments) 2. Product/service/solution- can i see myself selling, and do i belive in it. 3. Management/leadership- I hope to share my skills with others and help make them better. For the area’s im not the best at, I hope leadership is there to teach me. Without this you can only grow so far. 4. Culture- being apart of something bigger than yourself is a great feeling. Knowing others want to see you succeed just as much as you do for them is the best. This is what i look for/am looking for myself. Take care of those things and the only thing that would make me leave that job would be that its time to retire or if i changed eventuallg and would be better suited doing something else. Write down your why, and eventually you find positions open that align with it.

For me it was product, company culture and future potential. I actually took a 17% cut in base pay moving from my former SDR role to current AE role, but my actual earnings have more than doubled
