What do you look for to try and predict sales success in a new hire?

Anyone have any good tips for interviewing for new sales people? Any predictors for success? Any predictors for absolute failure?

When I used to hire SDRs for me it was the ability to have a conversation. Seems simple, but so many people can't hold a conversation.

Do they ask questions? Are they curious? Are they driven to learn? Things like that

Curiosity. Sounds fanciful, but it's a leading indicator that I will have a rep that wants to ask questions with the genuine desire to know the answer. How do I test for that? I see how many questions they ask during our conversations in the interview process. Do they key into key points I make about our funnel and try to pick them apart? Or, do they sit back and take it all in, not asking a single question until their follow-up email?

Predictors for failure are hard to suss out when you're in the interview process. The candidate could be a turd, but at the very least, they're the most polished turd they will ever be because they're selling themselves to you. You have to find indicators for success, and if they don't show up, you're probably going to regret that turd stinking up your pretty sales culture.

Being curious makes you a good conversational person most of the time. Good trait!
