What do you say to prospects who say they are interested but busy right now?

esp considering that for deals with longer sales cycles you need to be careful to not piss off prospects

You need to find a time when they aren’t busy. If they say they will always be busy, then you have to sell them on why spending a couple of hours with you over the next 6 months will make their lived easier/better. You can even volunteer to put the decks together for internal stakeholders. Just find ways to make it easy for them to buy.

Makes sense- I guess as a general tool take whatever a prospect says is a challenge and help them solve it right

Book something a while out (a month even). The risk is that they may cancel, but having something on their calendar will be a commitment.

How would you phrase booking it well in advance?

Obviously I have my own way but I’m curious how others would phrase it.

Something like: Totally understand. I don't know about you, but I find that most weeks are too busy for me to add anything new to my plate. Would it be easier to commit to a conversation in a month? We can always reschedule if something pops up.

This works like a charm!

I use a similar variation: "Bad idea to put a placeholder to catch up 45 days from now?"

I would have them clarify a bit. I want them to tell me why they are interested and what will change in the future that will make them less busy.

"we are doing a lot of traveling now" will become "school is starting soon and its hectic" will become "sports are in full swing, no time sorry"

So i would try to get out infront of it.

" Im glad to hear you are interested, what is standing out to you the most that you would want to revisit?
great. I understand that there is alot going on right now. what would need to happen in order for us to have time to reconnect?
Would it make more sense to spend 45 minutes next week to more about XYZ then from there you can decide if its even worth it to revisit it later on? "

"Understand you are busy right now, when is a good time?"  If your solution saves them money/time etc... "I understand you are busy, however, can I ask one quick question?  If you were going to start saving money/time, when would be a good time to start?"

I get we are all busy, but what can I do to accelerate your interest in potentially adopting our solution and solving your challenge

I completely understand - I'm seeing that with a lot of my clients. While we work through your schedule, who else would using the product? (get names)

Listen, if this something you're truly interested in, can you introduce me to them? That way, ill be working in the background to gather feedback for you when timing is more appropriate. Also, if we do work together, you'll notice adoption rates will be higher because of these internal meetings.

Do you mind sending introductions for me today?

They so no, they're telling you to kick rocks

If you call them a couple times and they always say they’re busy, just tell them you notice they seem to always be busy.

Ask them what keeps them busy. If everything they list is not your product, then chances are even if it’s a pain it might not be a priority and you might spend months spinning your wheels for nothing.

Put a meeting on their calendar.

Keep them warm with relevant info.
