There is no finish line. You aren't done when you close that deal, or hit quota. Always have to be planning, prepping, building pipe, etc.

In all honesty, I crushed it my first year in my closing role. Ended at 340%. Outsold the enterprise rep above me, got all the accolades, all the recognition. All went to my head in about November. "sales is easy. I'm hot shit."

Didn't close a single deal in Q1, and then barely got to my number in Q2. It was the kick in the teeth that I needed early in my career.

Yeah, tough lesson to learn. The work you do now, doesn’t it (or not hit) the board until 2-3 (or more) months down the road.  Almost everyone experiences this, the ol  sophomore slump.

Bingo. Think I first read about that rule in Fanatical Prospecting... a book I read after the sophomore slump haha

Disconnect with the emotion of the role. Emotion (high or low) doesn’t drive results, only anxiety, which actually negatively impacts results

That cocaine use was so prevalent among salespeople.

I would be interested to speak with successful sales people who went on to join marketing (if there are any) to shed light on why they think that marketing and sales really don't get along. I haven't had an experience as bad as described by other users here in a very long time, but still an interesting convo nonetheless

I wish I knew loyalty means next to nothing to most people.
