What got you into sales?

What was the main reason you chose this path?


Why not medicine or law school?


For me, apart from being a social extrovert that loves to listen and understand how and why people think differently, it was the thrill of the sale. Never knowing who or when someone would purchase my product it service.

Same. Didn't want to be a fireman (Broadcaster). But for some reason I chose accounting? And then realized accounting sucked.ย

It has been a learning experience, that's for sure. But honestly, it was a pretty easy transition from working in the food industry. Up-selling there was necessary just as it is in product sales.

I was in school for engineering and needed to take a gap year since I could no longer afford it. Got a job as a sample lady at Costco and was constantly selling out of product (got to go home with full pay if we sold out of product); figured I was good at sales and pursued a career in it.

I had worked as a veterinary technician for a very, very long time. The hours were grueling 15-hour days and the pay was an absolute pittance. I was making $11/hour for like six years... then I made a jump to a new clinic for $18/hour and that felt like I had MADE it. I am a rarity in the veterinary field because I am a vet tech who actually likes and can talk to people... so when a pet insurance company reached out to me to see if I'd be interested in being a sales rep, I figure I'd hear what they had to say.ย 

Since then, I've gotten addicted to the sales lifestyle. I love being able to work basically when I want and my outcomes are directly correlated to my hustle. I don't particularly love selling and I'm not veyr money-motivated, but I love feeling like I'm bringing the latest and greatest to people in the industry that I love.ย 

... and if it lets me afford my current lifestyle, well that's just a bonus.
