Neither will help you close more deals. Knowing someone might help you get the foot in the door and possibly a closed-won deal. Knowledge can also help you get in the door and win a deal.ย 

It is how you leverage both of these to then show the prospect how you can help them solve a problem. Both Who you know and What you know are vehicles to get you on the road.ย 

Attaching what you sell to a problem and solving that problem is how you close deals.ย

In my opinion itโ€™s what you know. Obviously it depends on what you sell and where you are. But if you have the knowledge itโ€™s better than not.

what you know - who you know only allows you to close deals that would be easy to win since they should trust you. You should be a SME in your field and know your competitors well too. I use the challenger methodology and it's worked wonders.ย ย

I think thatโ€™s the point, there is no โ€œworks most.โ€œ One must have the right balance of both to be a consistent closer. Otherwise itโ€™s just luck.
