What Is More Important?

Always been a big believer that a companies culture is a clear indicator of continued growth. Thus, I'm curious about what the War Room thinks is more important. Working at a company where you genuinely love your co-workers or working for a company whose mission you truly believe in? For me, I have to say the former. I've sold various products for my company and at the end of the day, the thing that has kept me from leaving is I love the people here. I believe in what we do, but it's not the mission statement that kept me motivated.

P.S I think both are important and help companies find success, but curious to hear what others think makes a bigger impact on the bottom line.

Charismatic leadership will make me work my ass off. If you believe in me, and motivate me to do great work, then I'm 1000% here for it.

Yep. I can hate the team but love the leader and follow blindly.

In sales money is the motivator and when the people around you can motivate you that is important

It also makes it difficult to compete when you’re always looking for reasons to dislike a persons approach or technique. Always second guessing motives.

it’s toxic quick.

I was going to say the mission, but then I remembered that I worked at a company that had a great mission but I left because the people were awful so I will say co-workers over the mission.

I think I put much more weight on the people I am working with, BUT a big piece of who I like to be around in a professional setting are typically people who have the same drive as I do. So it would be rare for me to be at a company that didn't have both.

I feel like this is such a tough question to answer... on one hand, sales is essentially a dog eat dog world... so as long as you eat, who really cares about company culture and relationships with your peers.

On the other hand, if you're in a work environment where you can connect to other individuals and be collaborative in your sales efforts, it'll go a long way. Plus, the happier you are coming into the office on a day to day basis, the happier you'll be overall. I'd like to think that your tone and energy on each of your calls will reflect that.

At the end of the day, whatever environment supports your growth both professionally and personally is key!

"I'd like to think that your tone and energy on each of your calls will reflect that." Preach... the amount of times I've seen people schedule three meetings in a day (A hattrick as we like to call it at my company) is always higher when they get an early morning schedule and for the rest of the day you can hear the happiness in their voice when they call prospects.

I think it's a mix, which I'm sure everyone else has said/thought. I was lucky enough to meet people in my small team which are now very good friends...however, the product isn't always all that. I always think 'I need to go to another company to progress and earn more' but then i think about my mates. However, although it's always easy to give advice and not do it yourself, I always have it in the back of my head that you shouldn't stay somewhere purely for the people. It's a hard one.

I'd say working at a place where you genuinely love your co-workers. People would be the biggest reason why I don't leave a place and actually have motivation to get into the office (aside from money)

I think this is a really interesting question and probably too complex to really answer in a short-form post. That being said, having co-workers you really get along with is amazing but can sometimes leave you accepting certain other red flags within a business which is a no-no. Also I would replace the term “mission” with product. Unless it’s a really early stage company, missing isn’t so important. I can believe in the benefits of a product without evangelising the mission (personally)

I’m currently in the first position, company has gone through highs and lows and without the people I work with I 100% wouldn’t make it through. However I think about a company with a better culture daily.

I would say the people. I’ve been at certain companies where I’m on one team and have loved every second and then as soon as things change and I’m surrounded by new people it’s the complete opposite effect…

If you don’t believe in the mission it will be difficult to love the coworkers and visa versa. At least for
long.

Personally, if I'm somewhere that I truly believe the mission, the likelihood of me loving my co-workers is pretty high.

It probably means I'm around similar and likeminded reps... just a thought

@Chep  doesn't sound completely jaded yet and I am so very jealous. I don't give a fuck about the company's mission statement as long as it isn't actively evil. The opening scene in Silicon Valley sums up how I feel about companies and their stated aims.
